Background/Tactics[edit | edit source]
Zombies are commonly found throughout the cathedral section of the labyrinth, but are rarer than Skeletons. They are also quite slow, making them easy training targets for rookie adventurers. Zombies appear in several additional variations: Ghouls, Rotten Carcasses and Black Deaths.
Zombies tend to keep to themselves; they will not hunt the player(s) down even when they are on-screen. However, if approached or if the player(s) come close to them, they will begin to slowly pursue the player(s). Ghouls, Rotting Carcasses, and Black Deaths are much more aggressive, but due to their speed, they pose no threat to one who is retreating from a fight. However, they tend to hit much harder than other enemies to make up for their speed. If the player(s) is/are low on life or simply too weak to engage in melee combat, its best to avoid these enemies (unless the player(s) have spells or ranged weapons).
Zombies are located in Level 1 and Level 2. Ghouls are located in Level 2 and Level 3, as well as Rotting Carcasses, which are also found in Level 4. Black Death's are found in Level 4 and are the only variation of zombies to be found in the Catacombs (Level 5 only).
Be very careful when fighting Black Deaths:
Each hit from them will permanently drain the player's maximum life by 1. Rogues and Sorcerers most definitely have an advantage against these beings; the former can effectively fight them with their ranged attacks, while the latter can make great use out of Holy Bolt, and eventually can have access to other magic that will prove too powerful for even resistances to save Black Deaths. On the other hand, it's dangerous for melee classes, most notably the Warrior and the Barbarian, to fight a Black Death in melee combat because of the -1 max health every time it hits them. To help reduce the threat poised by this, the character should never step next to a Black Death, and instead force them to approach, rendering them vulnerable to attack.
