Zalan Coste is a monk of the Cathedral of Light, albeit not a particularly devout one. He is interested in preserving art from before the time of the Cathedral.

Biography

Zalan was the son of Soliana Coste. Like her, he joined the Cathedral of Light, though was unaware of the details of her position. He believed she was stationed at Light's Watch, but the Cathedral had no record of any activities pertaining to the Knights Penitent there. As a monk, he was stationed at Margrave.

Better Days

"This painting must be from before my mother's time. These days, art like this would go into the pyre. I'll have to keep this well hidden. Thank you. If you find anything else from Margrave's past in your travels, I'd love to see it."

At some point, the Wanderer delivered a painting to Zalan which depicted Margrave's town square from before the Cathedral's time. Normally, such art would be thrown in the pyre, but he resolved to keep it hidden. He asked the Wanderer to see anything else from Margrave's past they found in their travels.

Legacies of Light's Watch

"You're injured. Do you need help?"
"You're kind, but it's nothing that won't heal. I was a fool for trying to get into the old Light's Watch outpost. That place is overrun with fiends. I only want to...I believe my mother, Soliana, was stationed there. However, the Church keeps everything but its records of the Light. There must be something left behind at the outpost by Knights Penitent!"

The Wanderer finds Zalan wounded

Zalan travelled to Light's Watch to learn what happened to his mother, but the fortress was overrun with monsters. He was wounded and returned to Margrave, where he encountered the Wanderer. He explained why he had gone to the fortress, and elaborated on how little he knew about his mother. The Wanderer entered the fortress, and recovered a trio of journals, which confirmed that Soliana had marched with the rest of her company on a mission the knights knew would result in their deaths. Zalan thanked the Wanderer for delivering the journals, and wondered if his mother would have made the same chocie if she knew what the world would become.

In-game

Cvetko is an NPC in Diablo IV, found in Margrave. He plays a role in the "Better Days" and "Legacies of Light's Watch" side quests.
