World Tiers were the original difficulty system of Diablo IV.
Gameplay[]
To gain access to World Tiers, one had to complete the game's campaign and Capstone Dungeon. To change tiers, one had to access the World Tier Statue in Kyovashad.[1]
List[]
- Tier 1: Adventurer
- Tier 2: Veteran
- Tier 3: Nightmare
- Tier 4: Torment
Each of the tiers from Nightmare on required defeating a pre-requisite dungeon[2]
Development[]
There were originally 100 world tiers in the game. It was originally stated that World Tier 1 & 2 would be available to players from character level 1. Tier 1 was meant for players who were new to the series and/or wanted to play the game for its story. Tier 2 was designed for players who wanted more of a challenge. As players leveled up, new tiers would be unlocked. Higher tiers granted players access to ancestral items. Certain tiers required defeating a boss to unlock.[3]
A Hell tier difficulty existed at some point.[2]
By April 2023, some, if not all of the above information was apparently rendered null, as it was stated that players had to complete the Capstone Dungeon to gain access to World Tiers.[1]
The World Tier system was abandoned for Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred, and replaced with a standard difficulty system.[4]
