Woodruh, Forsaken Warden, is a Transformed boss seen in Diablo Immortal.

Biography[]

Woodruh was once the warden of the prison beneath Stormpoint Keep. Despite his grim role, he was a friendly person.

Transformed[]

"Thought it was just an ordinary rock. Nice deep crimson, decent shine on it. Put it on the bedstand; next day, I passed around the mess. One of the green guards gets a real long look, makes for to grab it, next he's spewing seawater and his face is splitting open like a crab. Meris had to kill him with a fire poker. Every hair's on my back is falling out, and my skin's going to go next. Hell of a week."

- Woodruh in his journal(src)

One day, he found a red rock in the tidal cave beneath his office. Taking it as an ordinary rock, he put it on his bedstand. The next day, he passed it around the mess to see if any of the guards could identify it. A rookie guard reached to grab it for a closer inspection. Next thing, the guard started vomiting seawater, and his body began twisting to a monstrous form. Another guard had to put the rookie down, using a fire poker.[1]

Later, Woodruh noticed that his hairs began falling out. Seeing as the transformation was affecting most of the residents, both prisoner and jailor alike, he arranged for the prisoners with lighter crimes who had not started transforming to be moved to the Shanties. The hardened criminals who were "monsters in human skin" remained locked up.[1]

When it was clear that reinforcements from Westmarch were not coming, he ordered Commander Kenton to seal the prison. As he was already changing, he decided to stay in the prison to make sure none of the monsters make it out.[1]

Even as the changes ravaged his body, he managed to retain parts of his mind, and still made patrols around the prison. One day, he befriended a sea creature he found in the cave. With his mental faculties already warped, he decided to share "his Heart" with the creature.[1]

As a result, the creature started to transform over time, eventually growing into a behemoth. One day, it stole the shard and swallowed it. By now Woodruh was a shadow of his former self, and was obsessed with the shard. The despair of losing the shard proved to be the final straw for his mind.[1]

Bound for Eternity[]

"Where is it? Still hear it beat. Warm like the lash. Cold like fire to the fingertips. Mine."

- Woodruh's last journal entry(src)

Trapped in the prison and with close proximity to the Worldstone, he continued to painfully warp and warp; constantly clawing at himself in pain and despair. Even when confronted by the Shard-seeker, he continued to mutate.[2][3]

In-game[]

"It is mine it is mine, mine, mine!"

Trivia[]

This section contains facts and trivia relevant to this article.
  • The Warden is a sort of 'inverse character' in Diablo Immortal. Up to the events of Terror's Tide, the Worldstone shards in the game were routinely used by evil individuals. The Warden is meant to show what happens when the Worldstone "has its way with a place and a people."[2]
  • After losing his mind, Woodruh's character is similar to the Gollum from Lord of the Rings.
