The rainbow portal

Whimsydale is a unique location in Diablo III that can only be accessed by killing a Rainbow Goblin. It uses the Whimsyshire tileset, and is overall identical to it. This location was added in patch 2.1.

Description[]

The level is made in the style that is the opposite of everything that can be expected from a Diablo game: deliberately childish, colorful, cartoonish, similar to the fantasy of little girls about the perfect paradise. It is inhabited by cute, but still bloodthirsty creatures: Petal Flowers, Hug Bears, Plump Unicorns, etc. However, the external cuteness of these creatures is destroyed not only by their aggressiveness, but also by the fact that they all die the most brutal deaths in the entire game, colorfully falling apart with blood splatters and anatomical details.

The music in the level is obnoxious and ludicrous, giving the impression that it's a backwards melody, but when played in either direction, it remains a cacophony.

This zone can spawn all the same Unique Monsters as Whimsyshire, with the exception of Sir William. At least one will spawn every time.

There is no achievement for entering or beating it, but there is a chance of obtaining two weapon transmogs (sward and dagger) and Cosmic Wings.

Princess Lillian[]

In extremely rare cases, a unique unicorn can be found on the level. Princess Lillian is the rarest mob in the entire game. Outwardly, it almost does not differ from other unicorns, but is marked in purple as an elite. As an enemy she is nothing, players usually waste her apart, barely having time to notice. The reward for destroying her is Cosmic Wings.

Drop rate[]

As of March 2017, Whimsydale container drops have been greatly increased, growing even further with difficulty. Enemy drops are consistent with normal drops of that difficulty.

A single run of Whimsydale can bring rewards comparable to multiple Greater Rifts and The Vault combined.

Trivia[]

  • It's worth noting that although it is possible to find more than one Rainbow Goblin in a game, it will open a portal to the same Whimsydale, so there is no benefit to continuing to hunt for Rainbow Goblins after one has been located.
  • No Treasure Goblins spawn in Whimsydale.
  • Players sometimes call this "pony level", but this is incorrect, since the level is inhabited not by ponies, but by unicorns. They have a horn on their foreheads.
  • Even many years after the game's release, there are strange statements on the Internets that this is the famous Cow level. In fact, there is almost nothing common between them. The confusion arose due to the fact that at the start of Diablo 3 there really was no Cow level, but the Cow King existed originally, and it is he who opens the entrance to Whimsyshire (although this is essentially not his concern). Then the Cow level was added, although the king continues to claim that it does not exist (apparently, they just decided not to re-voice him). Thus, beginners may encounter this confusing substitution and draw strange conclusions.
