Topazes are yellow gems, a subtype of socketable items. Like other gems, they come in varying quality levels and grant bonuses to specific stats. Topazes were introduced in Diablo II along with the other gems, and appear in every subsequent game.
Diablo II[]
Like other Diablo II gems, Topaz bonuses are related to their color, yellow, which signifies the Elemental power of Lightning, as well as wealth and luck. In Weapons and Shields, a Topaz adds bonuses related to Lightning, while in Armor and Helms, it adds an increase in Magic Find.
Diablo III[]
Topazes are one of the five standard gem types in Diablo III. They initially carried the Magic Find bonus over from the previous game, but this bonus was changed to resource cost reduction during the expansion. They otherwise provide different benefits than before, although their increase to Thorns is similar to one of the Skull bonuses from Diablo II.

Prior to Patch 2.3.0, gems in Diablo III had nineteen tiers. The patch condensed the fourteen tiers below Marquise quality down to five for easier crafting. Graphics for each tier remained the same except that the Perfect Square graphic replaced the one for Flawless Squares (*). Below are those tiers as they existed before the patch, with the removed tiers italicized:
Prior to Patch 2.4.2, socketing a Topaz into Helms would increase Magic Find instead of reducing resource costs, up to 41% for Flawless Royal. This bonus had been made insignificant by the much higher bonus to Magic Find from Torment difficulty settings.
Diablo Immortal[]
Topaz is one of the Normal Gems in Diablo Immortal and increases Resistance.
