Thorns is a Paladin skill.

Effect: Enemies take damage when they cause melee damage to party members.

Player vs Player: Thorns will do 1/10th the damage.

This aura will do severe damage to any monster or player that hits the Paladin with a Melee attack. Thorns will only work if the enemy actually hits you however, so consider using this when you are taking a lot of damage. If the monster is unable to hit you due to your high defense, high shield blocking, high level compared to the monster, or because you kill them before they are able to attack you, consider using a different aura. This Aura also works well in parties against any monsters that may hit your party members. On a side note, this is the aura you want to use when fighting Diablo and other bosses, as it will give much more damage than taken, which in most caes, is a lot. This is, in the eyes of the dev team, the most powerful skill in a Paldin's skill set.

The damage returned is physical and can be reduced by physical damage resistance,lowering the effectiveness of this aura in hell difficulty. Curses such as Amplify Damage and Decrepify are ideal if you wish to use this aura past nightmare difficulty.
