Too tired to do more right now, but quick question about the "Horadrim" in The Order. I think they're worth a mention, but I was thinking of creating a "New Horadrim" page or something for them, as they're basicaly Horadric wanabes rather than "true" Horadrim in a sense. On the other hand, they're never given a formal name besides the one they use, so another page might be speculative in regards to its title.
Anyway, just a thought. Need rest...--Hawki (talk) 04:15, November 25, 2012 (UTC)
- I don't think it would be a good idea to invent a title for them, but if you want to give them their own article, perhaps something like
Horadrim (The Order)
could be used?

- For the record, created a First Ones article. As the term was used by Rau specifically for the group, figured it would be a good designation.--Hawki (talk) 01:14, October 2, 2013 (UTC)
Trivia[]
I found a problem regarding Horadrim lore in the trivia section:
- The manual of Diablo II mentions the Horadrim during the Sin War. This is likely an error, as all other sources establish that the Horadrim were founded during the Dark Exile, which occurred thousands of years later.
- As the above mentioned error, Deckard Cain mentioned in Diablo II that the Horadric Malus was fashioned by the Horadrim during the Sin War, which also could not have occurred during that time frame.
I think these statements are based on the lack of understanding of the concept called retroactive continuity (or retcon). The thing is, the Diablo I-II games were published before subsequent works that retconned them (such as the Sin War novels and Book of Cain). For example, Blizzard North became defunct at 2005, while the first Sin War novel was published on 2006.
The problem lies in the application of chronology. The lore established in Diablo I-II somehow "became" the error, but as a matter of fact, it's the newer works that have supplanted the former. The word "error" implies a mistake made, but this isn't the case. The new lore has its foundation on the original lore, but the writers expanded and opted to change certain aspects to fit with a new goal and direction for the franchise. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SilverCrownCalyx (talk · contr).
- For clarity:
- The first group of people wrote the story and lore of Diablo I & II
- After many years, there is a direction change for Diablo
- A second group of people took the story and lore made by the first group, then expanded and retconned them to be more conducive for the next installment
- Here's the problem:
- Someone read the published content written by the second group
- Information was compared between the first and second group, disregarding when these were published (or at least without a sense of causality and retrospection)
- The discrepancies written by the first group were deemed as "errors", implying that the ones who wrote it made a mistake
- In conclusion, the people who wrote about the lore in Diablo I and II regarding the Horadrim and Sin War didn't make a mistake. They had a different vision when they were written. The newer lore made the older one outdated, rather than "errors". And I've seen this misunderstanding in other pages too. SilverCrownCalyx (talk) 17:19, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
