Lorath Nahr and the Wanderer prepare to use the Sightless Eye
The Sightless Eye (a.k.a. the Great Eye)[1] is an artifact of mysterious power. It has the ability to maintain contact across realms,[2] and give insight into the future.[1]
History[]
The Eye was once possessed by the nephalem Philios. He used it to maintain contact with the angel Lycander, after she fled Sanctuary in light of Lilith's purge. When her fellow angels learned that she was communicating with someone outside Heaven, she ended the romance and insisted that Philios hide the Eye so that Heaven would not learn of Sanctuary's existence.[2]
Philios hid the Eye on Skovos, where it was recovered by his twin daughters, where they made their home on the island. Though they did not use the Eye to communicate with Heaven, they found that they were able to see the future through its mirrored surface. So it was that Askari culture developed, with the Sightless Eye at the heart of their society. Even today, it is held as one of the most sacred objects in Askari culture.[2] The Oracle Caste used the Eye to see into the future.[3]
The Eye was stolen from Skovos by a group of Amazon dissidents called the Sisterhood of the Sightless Eye. They stole the artifact and fled to Eastgate Keep in Khanduras.[2] The means of using it were a closely guarded secret within the Sisterhood.[4] It forsaw a time of great glory, but how far ahead, the Eye could not say.[1] With the loss of the Eye, the Oracle Caste's ability to look into the future was hindered, but not removed, as their handling of the artifact had imprinted the gift of divination on them. Their visions were no longer as clear, however.[3]
After Eastgate Keep fell to Andariel, the Sightless Eye's fate remained clear. Deckard Cain noted that it falling into the Maiden of Anguish's hands was one such possibility.[2]
By the time of the Reign of Enmity, the Triune possessed the Sightless Eye. It was later stolen from them by Lorath Nahr and his companion(s).[5]
