Shura is a Monk stationed at the Sanctified Earth Monastery.
Biography[]
Shura is a native of Mount Zavain, and grew up in the Sanctified Earth Monastery as a disciple of Zaim. One of his role models growing up was Patriarch Sladyan. As a youth, He befriended Oza, who was transferred from another monastery.[1]
Forgotten Nightmares[]
- Shura's request(src)
Sometime after Skarn's defeat, Black Mists from the Misty Valley started to spread to other parts of the mountain, and the monastery was almost overrun by Nightmares.[2] Aware of the Shard-seeker's actions with Oza, who had spoken highly of the adventurer,[3] Shura sent a letter to the adventurer's contact at Westmarch, asking for help.[2]
With the monastery overrun, Shura and the other Monks sought refuge at Sentinel's Watch. Though they were grateful, there was tension between the Monks and the Sons of Rakkis because of old hatreds. After an argument with Captain Vereks on how to proceed, Shura took a combined force of volunteers to eradicate the source of the mists. During the fighting, some of Shura's fellow Monks were lost to the mists in the Sanctified Earth Monastery.[3]
Shura met with the Shard-seeker, and declared his intention to travel to the monastery to use Sladyan's mantra to dispel the mists.[3] Sladyan had used his power to dispel the mists centuries ago, and Shura believed the deed could be repeated.[1] Together, they travelled to the Sanctified Earth Monastery, to Sladyan's statue to reveal the truths of the past and retrieve Sladyan's mantra. The vision revealed details Shura did not expect, and hinted that his idol might be connected to the origin of the mists.[1]
At first, he didn't want to believe it but his companion was able to make him see reason. With the mantra they retrieved they discovered the origin of the mists; a Veradani temple that was lost during the Zakarum Crusade. Using the mantra, Shura cleared the mist around the entrance, but could not follow his companion inside, as he had to maintain the mantra that cleared the path.[1]
After some time, the mists slightly receded, and his companion exited the monastery with proof of the mists' source; a corrupted prayer bead that belonged to Patriarch Sladyan. After purifying the bead, the mists further receded but did not completely fade. They discovered that the mists was actually a manifestation of the hatred borne by the people of Zavain, and as long as its people still carried old hatreds in their hearts, it wouldn't completely fade. This made Shura to come to terms with his own grudges and resolve to find peace by letting his hatred go.[4]
