Season of the Infernal Hordes was the fifth season of Diablo IV. It ran from August 6 to October 8, 2024.

The storyline of Infernal Hordes leads directly into Vessel of Hatred. Much like in other seasons, the questline of Season 5 takes place after the events of the main campaign (though reference is made to the Helltides of Season 4).

Gameplay

Unlike prior seasons, the questline of Infernal Hordes, in both the Seasonal and Eternal Realms, and will remain in the Eternal Realm once Season 5 has concluded. To access the questline, the player must have reached World Tier III, and head to Hawezar to investigate a disturbance amongst the cityfolk there. Completing this questline will allow the player to battle the Infernal Hordes, the new gameplay activity coming with Season 5. To access the Hordes, the questline only needs to be completed once per account.

New Legendaries and Uniques will be added during the season, and quality of life changes will be introduced.

Development

The main development focus of Season 5 was to build out the endgame. Another focus was to allow players to return to Hell.

Reception

Season 5 saw a new influx of players to the game.
