The Sand Scorpions are a bandit group operating in the Shassar Sea.[1] They are the primary adversaries of the Amber Blades.[2] They specialize in banditry and human trafficking.[3]
Lore[]
"Oh believe me, I know how Vataos works. I saw it firsthand."
The Sand Scorpions were led by Vataos; those who refused to follow his orders were executed.[4] The Scorpions seek to continue the legacy of the Fahiran Empire.[5] They carry out attacks on desert caravans[2] and villages,[6] and utilize forced labor.[2] The Scorpions are large in number, and their network sprawls across the desert. Any rivals to the group are murdered.[6]
History[]
A number of their members split off from the Scorpions to form the Amber Blades, starting a long-lasting feud,[7] as the two parties vyed for control of Shassar,[8] fighting over what few resources remained in the dunes.[5]
In 1270, the Shard-seeker sought the Scepter of Fahir. Vataos sent the Sand Scorpions to find the hero(es) and take the scepter pieces from them.[8] Led by Vataos himself, the Scorpions attacked Sereth Outpost, but were repelled by the Amber Blades.[4] Later, a group of Scorpions confronted Peth outside the outpost, demanding to know the location of the scepter. However, they were killed by the hero(es) who had allied themselves with the Blades.[9]
Later Activities[]
Note: The following events aren't necessarily in chronological order.
The Sand Scorpions stole a shipment of goods headed from Westmarch to Caldeum. The bandits hid in the Ruins of Greater Fahira. Westmarch offered bounties to adventurers to track the bandits down and retrieve the stolen items.[10]
A group of Sand Scorpions were able to break into the Library of Zoltun Kulle in search of treasure.[11] Later, the Sand Scorpions set about pillaging the library's archives, while others lay in wait for hapless adventurers.[12]
With the Amber Blades having retrieved the Scepter of Fahir, Vataos became desparate, and the Scorpions searched for a means to counter the scepter's power.[13] The Blades attacked the Scorpions, but were driven into the Library of Zoltun Kulle. In the ensuing fight, both Tabri and Vataos were apparently killed, and the scepter was lost.[14]
