- Saarodan(src)
Saarodan is a demon, and part of the Hearthrot Helliquary demons released with Destruction's Wake update.[1]
The Fulminous Parapet once secured the mountain pass between Aranoch and Khanduras in the time of Rakkis, but now it is home to a demon that has broken the sky into subservience. Saarodan cackles with thunderous glee as his victims flee in panic, for both they and the Sky-Sunderer know that no one can outrun lightning; no one can escape the reach of the sky.[1]
Biography[]
The Hearthrot come to an accord
C. 1272 Saarodan made an accord with five other demons to invade Sanctuary. This sextet would later be known as the Hearthrot. Saarodan emerged in Sanctuary somewhere along Bilefen. His entry rent a fissure in the earth which—even after he departed—vented demonic energy, creating a field that caused thunderstorms and corrupted the wildlife.[2] Saarodan eventually laired at the Fulminous Parapet.[1]
Saarodan is scried
At a point, Saarodan sensed an attempt to scry on him.[2]
After his death, his helm, hammer, hand, heart and foot were sealed within the Helliquary.
In-game[]
Saarodan is the sixth Hearthrot Helliquary demon to be fought.
Combat[]
Saarodan mostly uses melee attacks empowered with lightning. His most dangerous ability is his electric field; which builds random charges on players that deal repeated damage, and can be depleted by staying close to party members with similar charges.
- Phase 1
Saarodan's entrance
- "Do you hear the sound of thunder?"
Saarodan attacks with the following:
- A single swipe with his hammer
- Slam: Saarodan slams his off hand on the floor, unleashing a torrent of lightning that also causes knockback.
- Electric Field: At ≈15 seconds into the battle, Saarodan creates an electric field which covers the whole arena with static.
- The field persists till the end of the battle.
- Summon Minion: Saarodan summons 8 Skeletal Shieldbearers.
- Electric Orb: Saarodan tosses 4 lightning spheres which each bounce twice before dispersing. The points where the globes bounced become charged, and will explode if a player comes in contact with them.
- Whirlwind: Saarodan spins with his hammer, striking all players within reach and inflicting loss of control.
- Quake: At the end of every Whirlwind, Saarodan slams his hammer to the ground, summoning a thunderbolt which ripples outwards.
- Lightning Storm: Saarodan summons a miniature storm above the player which follows them for 5 seconds.
- Sundered Aspect: At ≈60% Life Saarodan summons 2 clones. The clones have less health than the original, and are protected by a Shell with 10 charges of invulnerability when summoned. They attack with a trio of Lightning Globes, Thunderbolts and unleash a pulse of lightning whenever the original casts Quake.
- This skill was removed in the March 20, 2025 update.
- Phase 2
Saarodan absorbs lightning to power up
- "I am endless as the sky."
At ≈60% life, Saarodan calls down a stream of lightning to himself, which destroy the top of the Fulminous Parapet. Absorbing it enable him to change into a stronger form. In this phase, the battle arena is halved and Saarodan is immobile. His attacks have greater damage and range, but are slower. At the beginning of this phase, Saarodan renews the electric field which was disrupted by his transformation.
- A slam
- Pummel: Two slams followed by a hammer fist which causes loss of control.
- Sweep: Saarodan sweeps his right hand through the length of the arena. A wall of lightning forms below his hand when using this skill.
- There is a gap in the lightning wall beneath his elbow, which can be used to evade the attack.
- Pulse: Saarodan gathers energy and unleashes it as a wave of lightning.
- Electric Orbs: are now spat from his mouth.
- Lightning Storm: is also spat from his mouth.
- Storm Cloud: A more powerful and slower version of Lightning Storm.
