Ruins of the Faith was the seventh seasonal quest of Season of the Malignant in Diablo IV. It activated as soon as Hope's Guardian was completed, and lead directly into The Cold Hard Truth.

Objectives[]

  1. Meet Cormond at the Zakarum Ruins (Cormond should have learned something from the documents by now. I should check on him near Zarbinzet.
  2. Speak with Cormond (Cormond thinks the cages were made in the outpost of Karamat's Reach. If we can find a stronger cage, Cormond believes it will cure his mentor. I hope he is right.)
  3. Follow Cormond
  4. Defeat the Malignant
  5. Follow Cormond
  6. Speak with Cormond (We have arrived at the location of Karamat's Reach, but it seems the entrance is hidden. I must work with Cormond to find a way.)
  7. Perform the Sign of the Light near the Statue (It seems the entrance is locked by an old Zakarum ritual. Cormond says we must perform the "Sign of the Light" in front of the statues nearby. Why was this place sealed?)
  8. Find the second statue
  9. Perform the Sign of the Light near the Statue
  10. Enter Karamat's Reach (The ritual worked and Karamat's Reach is open! Perhaps Cormond is right to hope...We will find out inside.)
  11. Regroup with Cormond
  12. Defeat the Vengeful Spirits
  13. Listen to Cormond
  14. Open the gate to the next room
  15. Search the chamber
  16. Slay the Angry Spirit
  17. Speak with Cormond

Transcript[]

  • Class: What are we doing in this place?
  • Cormond: Just-just listen. Varshan is the source of the disease, but I can cure him. I need to find the correct ritual.
  • Cormond: These ruins have been sealed since the Zakarum first arrived. If there's anywhere to hunt for lost knowledge, it's got to be here.
  • Class: That's not much to go on.
  • Cormond: What? Don't be so shortsighted, of course it is. And it would be to Varshan, too.
  • Cormond: That's...that's the kind of man he was--is. That--that simply can't be smothered by hate.
  • Cormond: Let me show you. Follow me.
  • Cormond: No one tried to explore Karamat's Reach since it was sealed, not even the Crusaders.
  • Cormond: Think of what secrets might--
  • Cormond: Excellent work. Let's continue. It's just ahead.
  • Class: Are these the ruins?
  • Cormond: I believe so. There should be...uh...
  • Class: What have you found?
  • Cormond: Ah, yes! Here. There's a door, hidden beneath the statue.
  • Cormond: Watch what happens when you make the Sign of the Light near the statue here.
  • Cormond: There, the first latch released. Now, we just need to find the second statue. It should be nearby.
  • Cormond: You've done it! The entrance is open. I will meet you inside!
  • Cormond: There-there's so much death. What have they done here?
  • Cormond: Keep searching. These experiments can't have been for nothing.
  • Inquisition Log - Day 34: Another fell to darkness today. The ritual is fatal to all whose hearts can be captured, if we're even able to capture the heart at all. We work tirelessly. Even if I wished for sleep, the cries are unrelenting.
  • Inquisition Log - Day 68: The days blend with new rituals and tests. Though our cages now capture the hearts of monsters, the rituals conclude with death. I can't understand this defiance of Akarat's light. There must be an answer.
  • Cormond: This can't be all...
  • Inquisition Log - Day 103: Orbei has demanded my findings. They believe our experiments a favor. It is true, there is no separation of the darkness from the light while the being lives, but we have proven it possible once the heart is captured! We just need more time.
  • Inquisition Log - Day 112: It's over. We've created the perfect cage to kill these monsters, and only kill. May no more succumb to this fate. Akarat guide us all.
  • Class: I found the stronger cage, but Varshan still won't survive.
  • Cormond: You're saying all we can do is capture him...kill him...
  • Cormond: No, no, no no no this is--that's unacceptable! All this death and torment, f-for what?
  • Cormond': Then all these people corrupted are...dead? Because of me? I...I--can't...
  • Class: Cormond, we've done all we can.
  • Cormond: (deep breath) Perhaps it's time we leave this place.
  • Cormond: We can--we'll return to my village. Where it started, and where it will end.

Optional Dialogue[]

  • Class: Where's the wagon?
  • Cormond: Still outside Zarbinzet. Unfortunately, my horse has no love of swamps.
