Rite of Exile

Rite of Exile combat

The Rite of Exile is the culmination of the Cycle of Strife, where the Shadows make their move to overthrow the Immortals.[1] A sacred challenge, the Shadows initiate the Rite if they deem that the Immortals have become too corrupt.[2] Should the Shadows overthrow the Immortals, the Cycle of Strife restarts.[1]

Gameplay[]

The Rite of Exile is a gameplay mechanic of Diablo Immortal, which runs on weeks 4, 5 and 6 of an Immortal reign. The Rite of Exile sees the top ten Shadow clans sending their eight strongest members to fight the best the Immortals have to offer. This kicks off ten separate simultaneous 8v8 battles. The battles use the same format as Battleground, with the Shadows taking on the role of the attackers. The Shadows must win a certain number of battles - 5 on week 4, 4 on week 5 and 3 on week 6. If enough battles are won by Shadows fighters, the dark clan at the top of the Shadows ranking will become the new Immortals and a new cycle begins.[1] Shadows who succeeded in the Rite progress to the Challenge of the Immortal.[3]

Players belonging to both the winning and losing sides will be rewarded with random items (including a guaranteed Legendary and Set Item), Hilts, and Scrap Materials. These rewards are provided directly after completing Rite of Exile.[4]

Spectators[]

Players can guess whether the Immortals or Shadows will win the Rite of Exile. A gift pack is rewarded with the contents depending on whether the guess was correct. The players who guessed correctly are entered into a lottery where 5 Legendary Crests are awarded.

Furthermore, within 1 hour of the event starting, players can guess which side will win each individual battle, but only 5 prediction tickets are available per player. A correct guess rewards 100 Hilts while an incorrect one rewards 50.

Once the match goes into preparation mode, players can spectate, and make further predictions on who will get the most kills and the most assists. These cost 2 tickets each and pull from the same ticket pool as the match predictions.

Whenever the Shadows complete a phase of the battlefield, or the Immortals reach 30 kills, a cheering interface comes up where players can rapidly click to cheer for either side for 10 seconds. Clicking enough times unlocks up to 3 chests containing gear, scrap materials and gold.

Players who are participating in the battle can't spectate. As a compensation they are entitled for the full rewards as if they guessed correctly.

History[]

Originally Rite of Exile was tied to Shadow progression as opposed to following a fixed schedule. The fixed schedule, spectator mode and prediction features were added in the September 21 2023 update.[5]
