Early Life[]

"What do you know of Reverend Mother Prava?"
"As a girl, she was sick. Plagued by constant seizures. But Inarius healed her. When I met her, I was a sinner. But her faith showed me what I could be. There's no one better fit to lead us."

Inarius treats Prava

As a girl, Prava was plagued by constant seizures.[1] At a point in her life when she was at rock bottom,[2] Prava was found by Inarius,[3] who healed her.[1] She became became the angel's faithful servant from that point onward.[3] The blanket she wore in her sickbed became known as the Child's Caul, and was treated as a holy artifact within the Cathedral of Light.[4]

As a member of the Cathedral of Light, Prava rose through the ranks to become Inarius's right hand.[3] While Inarius was the supreme leader of the church, Prava handled its day-to-day operations, and acted as a bridge between Inarius and the rest of the faithful.[2] Iosef became a member of the clergy because of her.[1] She carved the tablets that were placed at altars on the Fields of Judgment, which penitents would read when undergoing a redemptive pilgrimage across Serac Rapture.[5]

A Cold and Iron Faith[]

"Let the Light of Inarius burn away wickedness. Let not temptation lead you from his holy radiance. Let righteousness sear away corruption and sin. Cast out thy Darkness, for only Light must remain!"

- Prava blessing Iosef(src)

In 1336, rumors reached Prava of the return of Lilith to Sanctuary. These rumors were corroborated by a report from Vigo, describing a demon in Gale Valley.[6] She ordered Windfall Hollow be sealed in response.[7]

Prava meets with the Wanderer

The sighting of Lilith was corroborated by Iosef, who'd been sent to Nevesk to investigate why the town had stopped paying tithes. He also told her of the Wanderer he had encountered there. Prava conducted a ceremony, blessing Iosef, when said Wanderer arrived at its conclusion. The Wanderer revealed that they too knew of Lilith's return, and that Lorath Nahr, whom Prava had intened to send to Yelesna to investigate the demon sighting, would not be joining them. She asked the Wanderer to go in Lorath's stead, giving them the report she'd received earlier, and the information that if the Wanderer did this, they would have the gratitude of the Cathedral.[6]

Prava later departed for Kor Valar.[8] Here, she was informed by Vigo as to what had happened at Kasama, how he had let Lilith into the mines because of a bribe he'd accepted. He also told her of the actions of the Wanderer. Prava, unimpressed by the knight's failings, dismissed him. She appointed a new watch commander, and ordered them to replace the forces they lost at the mine.[1]

The Wanderer met with Prava at Kor Valar, telling her that they needed a divine blessing to continue their pursuit of Lilith. For them to be worthy, she ordered them to undertake a pilgrimage to Alabaster Monastery. After that, a blessing could be discussed.[1] Vigo also undertook a pilgrimage across the Fields of Judgment, and when he returned, he and Prava had a "good conversation" as to how he would do his penance.[9]

Prava blesses the Wanderer

Prava addressed the knights and priests of Kor Valar in a sermon when the Wanderer returned from Alabester. Inside the fortress's keep, the Wanderer told her that Inarius had refused to bless them. And yet, as Prava pointed out, they were standing before her unscathed, which was not a feat every other pilgrim who made it to Inarius achieved. Thus, Prava blessed the Wanderer herself.[9]

Dance of the Makers[]

During the march on Hell, Prava lead the attack. However, she was caught and dragged off by demons. She was found wounded by The Wanderer's party and Donan gave her a potion to heal her, much to Lorath's protests (caused by Hell's ambiance), and she was told to leave and find shelter outside Hell.[10] With doubt clouding her mind, Prava made her way back to Kyovashad.[11]

Despite them being the reason she was able to escape Hell at all, Prava later denounced the Horadrim as heretics, blaming them for Inarius's death, which caused Iosef to attack Lorath and the Wanderer.[12]

The Book of Prava[]

"The Horadrim have used their dark magics to bear a great evil into the world. Commit their wicked souls to the father and retrieve the Soulstone."

- Prava's decree(src)

Despite the losses suffered by the Cathedral, Prava continued to preach with the same fervor and took over leadership of the Church. She issued a decree in which she blamed the Horadrim for Lilith's existence, and declared that they were to be eraddicated. Lorath Nahr, who believed that Prava was jealous that the Horadrim had accomplished what the Cathedral did not, was not overly concerned—the Horadrim did not exist in any substantive way, nor did the Cathedral possess the power to actually erraddicate them, not to mention that the Horadrim still had many friends in Sanctuary. However, he speculated that Prava would find ways to cause damage and suffering regardless as to whether she accomplished her goals.[13]

With Inarius dead and the enemies of the Cathedral closing in, Prava turned to other religions to chart her own path forward. Lacking guidance from her former patron, Prava turned to scholarly pursuits as she healed her body and soul, learning all she could from Sanctuary's varied denominations...even as a corruptive force began to grow from within her own.[11]

Personality and Traits[]

Prava-tarot

Prava

A zealot,[13] Prava was dedicated to Inarius, and believed that he could save humanity and lead them to light.[3] Given her fervor, even after Inarius's death, Lorath Nahr believed that unless Prava was truly a mindless fanatic, there was something other than faith compelling her. He considered her to be a formiddable adversary.[13]
