The Realm of Damnation is Skarn's domain in the Burning Hells.
Lore[]
The Realm of Damnation, unlike the original seven realms of Hell, did not spawn from one of the seven heads of Tathamet,[1] but was instead created by Skarn, who siphoned power from the remains of Diablo to craft his realm.[2] However, there is evidence that the groundwork for the realm was laid long before, as references have been made to Skarn claiming parts of Hell for himself during the civil war that followed the Dark Exile.[3]
Once Skarn was defeated, Diablo's soul was free to return from the Black Abyss. His soul remained in Skarn's Throne, where it began reforming.[4] Around this time, Azmodan apparently tried to claim the realm as his own, sending demons through Hell Portals into the realm. However, the portals were closed by the Shard-seeker.[5]
Two years later, an agent of the Cult of Terror breached Skarn's Throne, and delivered a large shard of the Worldstone to Diablo.[6]
In-game[]
The Realm of Damnation is the final zone visited in the baseline version of Diablo Immortal, following on from the Frozen Tundra. It is one of the largest (if not the) largest zones in the game, and is divided into two sub-zones. The first is in the lower part of the map, while the second is comprised of the Citadel of the Damned and its adjacent wings (functionally, these are still independent zones). The two halves are crossed by using the Abyssal Gate (or waypoints, once they've been unlocked).
Demon Gates open in the zone.[7]

Development[]
- Developer statement(src)
The Realm of Damnation was designed to diverge slightly from the standard Hellish landscape of previous games. While it is intended that the player is explicitly in Hell, the landscapes are varied, in order to make it easier to remember them, and to generate "cool moments." This philosophy extended to the zone's monster design as well, diverging from the classic reddish demon usually seen in Hell.[3]
Trivia[]
- The Realm of Damnation was likely formed around the onset of the Dark Exile.
