Prayers for Salvation is the fifth prologue quest in Diablo IV. It begins immediately after the completion of the "A Hero's Reward", and is followed by the "In Search of Answers" quest.
Objectives[]
- Unlock the chapel door. "I took no joy in killing the villagers of Nevesk, but survival often forces difficult choices. The monk, wounded as he is, has asked me to search the Nevesk chapel to understand what drove simple people to such dark deeds."
- Enter the Chapel.
- Inspect the blood petals. "The chapel is empty, and yet there is an oppressive evil that weighs on my chest. What happened here?"
- Speak with Iosef. "I found a cascade of strange bloody petals falling in the chapel. They showed me a horrific vision of a demonic woman inspiring depraved acts. Is this what turned these people to darkness?"
Walkthrough[]
Head toward the chapel which is signified by the yellow quest marker. Use the key acquired in A Hero's Reward to unlock the door. After entering, the Wanderer notices Lilith's Blood Petals on the ground near the altar. Interact with the strange petals. A cutscene appears. Afterwards, the Wanderer is found lying on the ground near Iosef. Speak with him to find out what happened.
Transcript[]
- Iosef: Only fire can cleanse the darkness of this place. Have a look inside, but hurry. I will prepare the torch.
- Wanderer: Blood petals...like the ones I was fed. Is this real?
- Cutscene plays
- Priest: Shameful. Our Father has granted you a path to salvation. And yet you stray from it at every opportunity. You drink and gamble. You covet and steal. Shameful.
- Lilith: Sin is their birthright.
- Lilith: My children, the lords of Hell are coming to devour our world. Salvation lies not in the Light, but in you. The faith has taught you to deny your heart's desire and turned you into a prisoner within yourself. Break the chains...and be beautiful in sin...
- Priest: Resist! Resist her temptat-- Vani, it's me. I brought your child into this world.
- Elias: They have awakened, Mother.
- Lilith: The first of many. Go to the Dry Steppes and continue your preparations. Now our true work begins.
- After cutscene
- Iosef: Ah, you came to. Thank the Light.
- Wanderer: How did I get out here?
- Iosef: You collapsed inside. I thought the darkness had swallowed you...I dragged you here and put this cursed place to the torch. What happened to you in there?
- Wanderer: I saw...a vision. A horned demon. She said the Lords of Hell are coming. She wanted to help the people survive.
- Iosef: Help them?
- Wanderer: She called them her children, and they welcomed her like...a mother.
- Iosef: Mother? No...it cannot be. I must report to the Cathedral. Listen, there is a hermit to the northeast. A man of questionable loyalty, but he knows of the forbidden. He might be useful to us. Bring him to the Cathedral in Kyovashad, and you will be in the Light's favor.
Optional Dialogue[]
The player can talk with Iosef to get further information:
- Wanderer: What were you doing in Nevesk?
- Iosef: Looking for the town priest. He stopped sending tithes, and I came to find out why. As I neared the village, I sensed darkness around the ruins. I went to investigate. Found the priest's body...demons...Foolishly, I took shelter in Nevesk and ate their food. You know the rest...
- Wanderer: Who is the Mother?
- Iosef: Do not call her that. It is a demon, Lilith. The gospel says that she will walk among the people posing as the Mother of Sanctuary. If she is here, it is humankind's own sin that has brought her.
- Wanderer: Who is this hermit?
- Iosef: He surrounds himself with dark knowledge. Tread carefully, and pray he has not fallen to Lilith as well.
