- Peth(src)
Peth is a scholar affiliated with the Amber Blades. His role is to examine Shassar artifacts. After the loss of Tabri, he became the group's leader.[1]
Peth is able to use magic. He doesn't believe in luck.[2]
Biography[]
The Shassar Sea[]
In 1270, the Shard-seeker asked Peth about the Scepter of Fahir. He was aghast, given its sordid history, but seeing that they wouldn't be dissuaded, gave them the location of the first of its three pieces.[3]
Peth later travelled to Sereth Outpost, and was present when it was attacked by the Sand Scorpions. The attack was repelled, and Peth and his fellow Blades brought the lone survivor to Tabri for judgement. The survivor joined the Amber Blades, and later, Peth accompanied Tabri and the rest of the Amber Blades to the Chamber of Truth, where they met with the hero(es) who presented Tabri with the last piece of the scepter. With the scepter reconstituted, Tabri declared herself to be ruler of Shassar. Peth declared that this moment would be remembered forever, and knelt to his new ruler, along with the rest of the Blades.[4]
Upholding her end of the bargain, Tabri ordered Peth to take the hero(es) to the Library of Zoltun Kulle, as only he knew the ancient spell that would part the sands.[4] He obliged, and they used a waypoint to head to Sereth Outpost, from which he would lead them to the library.[2]
Peth teleported first, and after his arrival, was taken captive by some Sand Scorpions. The cadre's leader told Peth that the Scorpions knew that the Amber Blades were collecting the pieces of Fahir's scepter, and demanded to know where it was. However, the Scorpions were killed by the hero(es) who'd been following Peth. He told them they had to get out of here before more Scorpions arrived. Leading them onward, he told the hero(es) that while the Blades knew of the library, they'd never been inside, as there were "too many warnings." They arrived at the library, and while Peth was uneasy, the hero(es) had survived the Tomb of Fahir, so perhaps they would survive Kulle's library as well. He told them not to worry about the Blades. That thanks to the hero's/heroes' efforts, they would retake Shassar.[2]
Peth then used his magic to reveal the path to the library.[2]
Later Events[]
Note: The following events aren't necessarily in chronological order, but have been arranged to be as close as possible.
Bounties[]
At some point, Peth ventured into the library itself, but found it had been invaded by Drubs. He requested that adventurers remove the Ghouls from the library, as he dared not set foot inside again until the monsters had been removed. Furthermore, in doing so, the library's archives would be protected from the Drubs' ruthless scavenging.[5]
Upon learning of the golems that inhabited the library, Peth requested that any adventurers that encountered them bring him their sandstone cores.[6] He also requested that adventurers remove the Sand Scorpion bandits that had entered the library, now that it had been opened to the world.[7]
Curse of the Scepter[]
"I-I don't know. But Zov will not escape punishment for long. That much I promise."
- Peth and the Shard-seeker discuss Zov's betrayal(src)
Having claimed the Scepter of Fahir, the Amber Blades attacked the Sand Scorpions, but were forced to retreat into the Library of Zoltun Kulle.[8] Tabri wrote a letter to Peth, telling him that she was heading off to face Vataos alone, and to make sure Zov didn't cause any problems,[9] as she had grown suspicious of him.
Peth formed an alliance of sorts with the library's golems, but their slow speech made practical action impossible. In the end, Tabri apparently fell in battle with Vataos, and Zov stole the scepter, abandoning the Amber Blades. The Shard-seeker told Peth what had happened, and Peth realized that Zov had manipulated the Shard-seeker to find Tabri, and had made his move when opportunity struck. Peth despaired at the loss of both Tabri and the scepter.[8]
To Tabri[]
Before Tabri went missing, she gave Peth a letter with a coded message, but he was unable to decipher it. Some time after the loss of Tabri, a merchant friend of hers arrived at the camp to deliver wine to her. He had been accosted by Lacuni, but was saved by the Shard-seeker and Sahid. He informed Peth that he sent the adventurer on an errand to retrieve a letter that Tabri buried at the Perpetual Hourglass at a point when they went there to drink.[10]
The Shard-seeker returned with the letter, which was the cypher to the letter with Peth. After decoding the message, Peth read Tabri's last message for the Amber Blades, in which she named him as the new leader. The whole camp took a toast in honor of Tabri.[10]
Leading the Amber Blades[]
Peth settled in as the new leader of the Amber Blades. Initially, he was not much respected by the soldiers, likely because of his lack of martial prowess. By this point, he had taken Calim as his student.[11]
Peth promoted the people loyal to him (eg. Sahid), and they helped him to root out spies within the camp.[12] Meanwhile, the Sand Scorpions continued to grow brazen.[13]
Over time, Peth grew into his role as the leader of the Amber Blades, learning counter espionage and even how to fight.[14]
