"This is no mere "armor!" This is a holy vessel of the highest craftsmanship. It may uplift the repentant sinner to the Light directly. Can "armor" do that?"

Penitent Armor was created by the Cathedral of Light for use by the Knights Penitent.[2] The armor is fitted with cruel spikes that point inward. Thus, with every strike the wearer makes, these spikes pierce their flesh.[3] This is intentional however, as their faith moves the suit, though how this works is known only to a privilaged few within the Church.[2] In the long run, the standard armor of Knights Penitent actually provides more protection, as any wearer of Penitent Armor pays a heavy price.[3]
The armor's helmet doesn't contain the wearer's head. Its spikes recede deep within the helmet, as part of a metal slab that protrudes downward. The metal tendrils stretch to the helmet's base and latch onto a studded leather cap, denying any room for a head.[4]
By 1336, Penitent Armor was considered a relic within the Cathedral. At least one suit was ordered by Prava to be prepared for Vigo, in order to give the knight the means to atone for his failures at Kasama.[2]
