Passing the Torch is a Mount Zavain side quest in Diablo Immortal. It triggers by talking to Albia whenever she appears at the Zakarum Graveyard, beside the entrance to the crypts.

Objectives[]

  • Follow Albia.
(Albia, one of the Zakarum faithful, wants to light sacred flames to keep evil at bay. Follow her into the tomb to find the altars she seeks.)
  • Defeat the Undead (0/8).
(Risen dead haunt the sacred altars inside the tomb. Drive them off.)
  • Purify the Altar (0/1).
(The sacred flame altar must be purified if its light is to return.)
  • Talk to Albia.
(The lit altar has not dispersed the darkness as Albia thought it would. Talk with her about the altar's purpose.)
  • Find an Altar.
(Perhaps other sacred altars will drive back the darkness. Find one deeper within the tomb, near the chamber of Lord Martanos.)
  • Purify the Altar (0/1).
(The second altar must be purified before it can be used, and time is of the essence. Darkness is falling upon the tomb.)
  • Defeat the Undead (0/6).
(Powerful undead seek to challenge the faint light you have stoked. Drive them off before they destroy the altars.)
  • Talk to Albia.
(The altar is lit, but the spirit of the tomb's principal occupant seems warped by the energies of the land. Talk to Albia about her plans.)

Transcript[]

Passing Torch
  • Albia: Wanderer, you've arrived at an ill time. Soon darkness and its manifold curses will cloak this wicked land, and the dead will rampage. I enjoin you to leave.
  • Class: And why are you here?
  • Albia: It is the charge of my line to keep the sacred flames lit as the nights grow longer. Our vow of Zakara, our promise to Akarat, to keep the dark at bay.
  • Class: Sounds like you could use a hand. Let me help.
Start following Albia into the crypts
  • Albia:
    • Standard : The travails of faith are to be shared by all; gladly do I accept. Follow me to the burial chamber of Zakarum's favored son, Lord Martanos.
    • Monk: The grievances of the past belong there. I did not expect one of your faith to share this burden, but you have my thanks. Let us begin with Lord Martanos's chamber.
  • Albia: Undead do not fear a guttering flame. Be on your guard.
The altar is haunted by undead. Defeat them
  • Albia: Darkness clings to the altar already. Help me banish it.
Help Albia banish the darkness
Lit Altar

After that, Albia lights the altar

  • Albia: Light, suffuse this place with warmth they cannot steal.
The darkness persists

Talk to Albia

  • Albia
    • Crusader: The sacred flames are meant to drive away these malevolent things. Yet the darkness persists Why? We have been dutiful since my grandmother was young.
  • Class: Tell me what you know about the altars.
  • Albia: The Zakara scions left them to drive back the evil that festered after the war. All wars breed hate, but when the Protectors of the Word fought the Monks of Ivgorod, the stain was... incurable.
Now, not even an ember remains in the altar for long. Their protection is fading. It must be the revenge of this doomed place. Zavain.
  • Class: You said there were multiple altars. Let's look for another.
  • Albia There should still be one beside Lord Martanos's casket. I... I hope.
At the second Altar
  • Class: This altar doesn't look any better.
Restless Zakarum

Undead Zakarum emerge from nearby graves

After defeating the undead, banish the darkness around the altar
Lit Altar1

Albia tries to light the second altar

  • Albia No... the flame's light is swallowed up already. Quicker than the last.
The cave trembles
  • Albia: What is that?
More tremors pass through the cave
  • Albia: Show yourself and be purged, darkling beasts!
Restless Zakarum1

More undead Zakarum emerge from their graves

  • Albia: The shadows are closing in!
After defeating the undead
  • Albia: In utmost night do we shine.
Albia's Light

Albia lights the altar, this time successfully

  • Albia: The flame is lit.
The flame gains an unnatural glow
  • Lord Martanos: (disembodied) This land... belongs to Zakarum... and yet you have loosened your grip upon it. This is weakness... the deeds of an unbeliever... a recreant!
Passing Torch2

Talk to Albia

  • Albia: Such hatred from one of the faithful. Even the old guardian lies befouled in his grave. Perhaps he was always... no, better to focus.
I will remain here tonight. And return each fortnight. If the altars will not take fire, I shall hold a torch above them.
  • Class
    • Standard : All that for this place? Despite the danger?
    • Crusader: Duty to... forgotten ideals can be dangerous. Zakarum has proven it. Are you sure?
  • Albia: I must. If the faith is to be believed, this obligation belongs to no one else.
I could not carry this weight alone.
