Biography

Parin worked as a sanctioned scribe for the Cathedral of Light. His charge was to study demons in all their manifestations. To this end, he was given his own study in the Crags of Ill Wind, where he was permitted to study the occult.

Parin regularly employed the services of Magdalena. He tasked her with retrieving odd items or objects with a history. He paid well for them.

The Woodsman of Nevesk

"Magdalena has been in my employ for years, it pains me greatly to know what has happened. If such an artifact was found in Nevesk, I will see that town burned to the ground and the earth salted. Who knows what other foul things slithered out of that town?"

Parin entreats the Wanderer for aid

In 1336, Parin tasked her with obtaining the Woodsman's Axe, as its owner had disappeared. He didn't tell her what he wanted with it. The axe was obtained by the Wanderer, who handed it to Magdalena, who then traveled to Menestad to meet with Parin. Parin and his retinue of Knights Penitent met with her, but Magdalena attacked them with the axe, killing or wounding numerous knights before fleeing into a nearby cellar. Parin noted that her face appeared pained, as if she could not help herself, and that the axe appeared to feed on the fallen's blood.

The Wanderer entered the cellar and slew Magdalena, much to Parin's regret. However, they still needed to purge the demon from the axe. He told the Wanderer to meet him in his study, which was located on hallowed ground, where they could perform the incantation.

Parin carries out the incantation

Parin met the Wanderer at his study. He instructed the Wanderer to place the axe in holy water, at which point he began an incantation. Magdalena manifested in spirit form, attacking the Wanderer, before The Woodsman similarly manifested, and was likewise defeated. The axe was destroyed, but Parin didn't know what had happened to the souls of its victims. He said they could but pray that they found the Light.

In-game

Parin appears as an NPC in Diablo IV. He is found in Menestad after players complete "The Woodsman of Nevesk" side quest, where talking to him will initiate "Chain of Possession." He similarly plays a role in "Legacy Unmade."
