Orbei Monastery is a Zakarum structure located in the Dry Steppes.

Lore

Orbei Monastery is an isolated and secretive feature in the rural Dry Steppes. While the Zakarum’s presence has diminished, the Orbei Monastery carried evidence that places of worship for the Zakarum could still quietly function.

History

Orbei was once a prominent base of learning for Zakarum monks. In the 13th century, it was involved with the Zakarum Inqusition, demanding reports from Karamat's Reach on the results of their experiments with Cages of Binding.

By the Great Enmity, despite the efforts of Zakarum worshipers, the monastery fell into a state of dilapidation, and was abandoned. However, it still attracted Zakarum pilgrims, making their way along the road to the monastery in wagons. The Scholars of Orbei operated out of the monastery.

The Malignant

"What have you found?"
"A hall of records, hidden under the old archive! The monks documented every discovery they made. That'll include our Cages of Binding, I'm sure of it. There's an entrance down in the crypt. I can't open it, but there are...things down there. Nothing you can't handle, though!"

While the fire destroyed most of Orbei, not all of the monastery was consumed by flame. While exploring the ruins, Cormond found the design for Cages of Binding. As it turned out, the fire had not consumed the monastery's crypts or Hall of Records. Cormond and the Wanderer made their way through the crypts to the hall, consulting old records in order to aid them against the Malignant.
