The Necropolis[1] is a vast underground city located in the eastern jungles of Kehjistan. It is the headquarters of the Priests of Rathma,[2] and was founded early on in the priesthood's history, while Kalan was still alive.[3] The entrance to the city is built into the trunk of a large tree. Beyond the entrance runs a winding staircase that eventually leads into the city proper.[4]
In the Necropolis, apprentices are taught to command things beyond mortal ken, first with chains of power, then with symbols alone.[5]
The city contains a library, which contains writings on the Burning Hells. However, the books are vague in their depictions of the realm.[6]
In 1286, the city came under assault by the Reapers, resulting in the deaths of many of the priesthood.[1] Because of the events, few Necromancers remained in the Necropolis even fifty years later.[7]
In-game[]
The Necropolis is seen in the Necromancer's intro in Diablo III.
The Necropolis is visited in Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred, as part of the Festering Dark stronghold.
Trivia[]
- A necropolis is a large, designed cemetery with elaborate tomb monuments. The name stems from the Ancient Greek νεκρόπολις nekropolis, literally meaning "city of the dead".
