Mosquitodemon

Mosquito Demons (or sometimes called Suckers) have a chance to drain their victims' mana and stamina. Though they are not particularly deadly, they can be annoying as they tend to poison on contact and leave players without stamina. Luckily, one or two weapon blows should be enough to take them out. Mosquito Demons have four variants:

On Hell difficulty, all types are immune to Poison. Their variants have a 60/80/70/90% chance respectively to drain stamina on Normal, and 100% chance to drain stamina on Nightmare and Hell.

Background[]

The wet, humid atmosphere of the Kehjistan rainforest is an environment perfect for fly and mosquito larvae. Pools of stagnant water gather after the frequent rain storms, providing excellent spots for the adults of these species to lay their eggs. Some of the mosquitoes found here are enormous, with wingspans as large as four feet. Luckily, the larger species are also much more rarely encountered than their smaller cousins.

Giant mosquitoes, referred to locally as "suckers," are known disease carriers. Their large size makes them appropriate targets for hand or missile weapons. These insects can quickly drain the blood from a victim, causing a quick loss of stamina, making escape extremely difficult. By themselves, Suckers are not usually deadly. However, if other threats lurk nearby, Suckers will drain a victim's stamina while other creatures move in for the kill.

Suckers' hunger for mammal blood is well known throughout the villages of Kehjistan Jungle as they tend to suck the blood out of unwary or wounded creatures the point of total withering. Despite their voracious reputation these over-sized mosquito demons are only lethal when encountered in large numbers and are normally easy to hit even with ranged weapons. A vivid and well armored hero suffers usually only stamina loss and becomes slightly fatigued if the Sucker has a chance to sting.

Development[]

  • As they don't have an color palette file (palshift.dat), their Uniques and Champions can't have random colors, but they would look like this if they did have this one applied or any other. (Click on the small image)
  • Giant Mosquitos have unused color palette file on the token (EG) added in expansion. This token also houses unused HD graphics for the mosquitos.
