Lore[]

"Fractured Peaks is always dangerous, but now, in these deep winter months, monsters of an entirely different sort stalk us. During this time--this Midwinter Blight--we aim to inspire hope that endures in the darkness."

- Gileon(src)

Midwinter Blight is a recurring event of Kyovashad, held during the deep winter months of the Fractured Peaks. It is during this period that the Peaks are stalked by the Blightfiends. As such, people gather in Kyovashad. In light, in celebration, in memory of the dead. Midwinter Square is decorated not only with the effigies of monsters, but heirlooms of the lost. This is not to signal that the people of Kyvoashad are not afraid, but rather a demonstration that when people are afraid, they need each other the most. The event includes music, dancing,[4] and song, in an effort to suppress the people's dread. Some venture out from Kyovashad to face the Red-Cloaked Horror.[5]

The tradition was apparently suppressed by the Cathedral of Light, but the tradition was revived in the winter of 1336. The Cathedral wasn't pleased, but the people of Kyovashad wanted a return to their roots.[4]

During the event, the Fractured Peaks were enveloped by a storm and were in deep winter darkness. The lead NPC for the event was a wandering bard named Gileon, which the player met in Kyovashad. The square was decorated appropriately for the season and featured the Totem of Midwinter. Players battle dagainst Frigid Husks and Blightfiends, who were in service to a khazra called the Red Cloaked Horror. Defeating enemies and completing area events could summon this boss.[6]
