Michael "Mike" Morhaime was one of the three co-founders of Blizzard Entertainment.

Morhaime took a hand in the development of Diablo III, specifically its aftermath. He and the rest of Blizzard's C-suite felt that Diablo III had damaged the IP's brand, and that no matter how well Reaper of Souls might be received, it would not be enough to turn around player reception. Ergo, The King in the North was cancelled.[1] Content that had already been developed for the expansion was released for free at Morhaime's insistence, for whom the decision "was about winning back the hearts and minds of people who were disappointed with the original release."[2]

In the aftermath, Morhaime entrusted Josh Mosqueira with creating a fourth Diablo game. However, it too was cancelled. Morhaime later admitted privately that cancelling King in the North had been a mistake, given how well Reaper of Souls had been received.[1]
