- Merraid, after witnessing another nightmare(src)
Merraid was a scholar, and an apprentice to Cudworth.
Biography[]
Merraid was an apprentice to the scholar Cudworth. Around 1270, they travelled to Bilefen to study the ancient ruins around the temple. After arriving at the island, Merraid began having nightmares each time she slept. They were so horrifying that she gradually became unable to sleep. After some days without sleep she was visited by Gabhidon; a servant of Sargoth in a vision. He promised to rid her of her nightmares if she disabled the wards around the temple's library. Seeking to protect her master, she knocked him out before heading to the library. She was rebuffed at the entrance to the library by the undead guardians guarding the place.[1]
She sought help from a passing adventurer, and lied that it was all to reinforce the wards around the temple. After the guardians were defeated, and the Guardians' Greatswords retrieved, she noticed that one of the swords were tainted. She asked the adventurer to help her purify it at an altar in the antechamber of the temple. She tried to break the wards with only one sword but was only able to weaken it. Gabhidon was able to force himself out through the weakened wards, and tormented her for her part failure. In the midst of this the adventure returned and defeated Gabhidon. At his death, he promised that Merraid's torment wouldn't end.[1]
Relieved to be finally free, Merraid immediately slept off. She found herself in another nightmare, where Sargoth ordered demons to slaughter some villagers. The sight was so horrifying that she immediately woke up. Despairing at her continued torment, and unwilling to live with it, Merraid took the Greatsword and killed herself with it.[1]
