Biography[]

In 1270, the Shard-seeker awoke Cain's memory, under direction by the Memory of Iben Fahd.[1]
In-game[]
The Memory of Jered Cain appears as part of the Legacy of the Horadrim system.
His in-game description is simply "Jered Cain," but has been called "Memory of" here to distinguish him from his progenitor.
Tale[]
Though I had seen 10 summers, my family knew my perspicacity; since I was a child, my sisters had asked after spare vellum for me, and my father bargained for parchment from travelers. They heeded my words when the plague swept through our town, and remained healthy while others fell to the disease, with awful sores blossoming in their mouths and underarms.

I wrapped my face in wet rags, watched the burning of the cadavers, and spoke to the relatives of the dead about their lives. My notes I kept in a small wood and leather tome, which I thought of as my grimoire. When I saw someone walking to the granaries or taverns, I urged them to stay outdoors, away from fouled air and the feverish, and to leech out bad blood. I was only a boy; seldom, it seemed, did they listen.

Terror, you see, was worse than the plague. The plague killed neighbors and friends; terror killed reason itself. Our home was safe, near the edge of town, and yet my family was the subject of angry questions. Why were we spared? What witch's pact had we made? What was in that tome I read? As the plague continued, the hysteria of the questions grew. Neighbors stared at us. My sisters' faces were fearful always.
