The Master Crusader is an NPC that can appear in Act V of Diablo III.
Biography[]
The Crusader found the boy/girl who would be their apprentice in a village in the east. The boy/girl was only twelve. The apprentice swore the oath genuinely, but cried the first night, and every other night over the first week. The master began to consider taking their new apprentice back to the village. However, they decided against it, for the Master Crusader saw even then that their apprentice would be the greatest member of their order. The Master Crusader died before their apprentice's eyes. Per Crusader tradition, the apprentice took up their master's armor, shield, and name.
After death, this Crusader found themselves in the Pandemonium Fortress, where their soul remained tied to the location by Malthael's magic. Ordan, whose soul was also imprisoned, instructed the Crusader on how to communicate with the living. The Crusader did so, as their apprentice entered the fortress, seeking for the means to defeat Malthael. The master told their apprentice to release the spirits in the fortress, so that they may gain the power of death. They did so, and the master returned to their apprentice, alongside the spirits of every Crusader who had borne the name now carried by the apprentice. They asked where their former ward's apprentice was. Their former apprentice, after some excuses, promised to get one. With final farewells said, the former apprentice went to confront Malthael.[1]
In-game[]
The Master Crusader will appear in the Pandemonium Fortress if the player is using a Crusader. Their gender matches that of the player's character. Taking part in all the Master Crusader's conversations will earn the "Carrying the Name" achievement. Both the male and female versions have to be talked to to get both versions of this achievement.
