Mana Regeneration is the amount of Mana recovered per second, which is mostly useful for spellcasters, and Mana-dependent builds. It has its uses for any build, even if it only serves a minor purpose.
In Diablo I, Mana Regeneration is initially set at zero; characters must drink potions i.e., Potions of Mana, and/or Potions of Rejuvenation to regain their Mana.
In Diablo II, natural Mana Regeneration is very low, meaning that investing in items that increase it is vital to any spellcaster. The Sorceress' Skill Warmth, and the Paladin's Meditation Aura are the only Skills in the game to grant a bonus to additional Mana Regeneration.
In Diablo III, all classes have alternate means of regenerating their class resources, which can roll on any of the Class-specific Items, or be a part of their skills. Moreover, some classes may have zero, or even negative recovery rate of their resources.
