Magic is a character attribute in the first Diablo (Game) game that increases the amount of damage done by most spells, increases Mana pool, and allows learn more advanced spells (as well as using more powerful scrolls and staves).
Each spell has minimum requirements, and each spell level demands 20% more than the previous, up to a maximum of 255. Only Sorcerers can get that much without help of items. Magic can be increased by equipping items or gaining character levels.
Magic as a game mechanic is used most often in combat, and is learned by all character classes except possibly Barbarians. Barbarians have their base Magic locked at 0, but can get more from equipment.
