Scoundrel

Lyndon the Scoundrel.

“There are many ways to open a door. I happen to know most of them.”
~Lyndon

Lyndon the Scoundrel is one of the three Followers featured in Diablo III.

Lyndon is first met at The Old Mill in Act I, while on the way to the Drowned Temple with Leah.

Background

Where strife festers, opportunists are rarely far behind. A land caught between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells overflows with rogues and rakes, and both of those words certainly describe Lyndon.

The recent years of his whirlwind existence have been spent running from place to place, conning locals, seducing ladies, and relieving the unwitting of their drink and money. The threat of imprisonment or an armed guard has never dissuaded Lyndon from living a life of larceny.

Dedicating himself to a conflict against an endless stream of cruel demons and rampaging beasts seems out of character for a man so outwardly charming and unhesitatingly selfish. There must be more to Lyndon than his lust for wine, women and wealth. Mustn't there?

As Lyndon travels with the Hero on their journey, the Hero will begin to ask of his past, and Lydon tells of how he grew up poor with his brother in the city of Kingsport, famed for its naval trade (to which he adds "and endless nets of reeking fish"). Lyndon developed a skill for stealing and became a thief, while his brother became a guard. Lyndon fell madly in love with a woman who choose to marry his brother instead of him.

As a member of the thieves guild Lyndon would occasionally tip off his brother, who would appear to get lucky and show up just in time to catch the thieves. However one time Lyndon's brother showed up too early and, already under suspicion for his habit of knowing just when the thieves were going to strike, was accused of being in league with them and was thrown in prison. Lyndon's sister-in-law believed that Lyndon had set his brother up, and convinced her husband of the same thing.

With his only family thinking he'd betrayed them and the thieves guild out for revenge, Lyndon was forced to flee the city. Since then he sends much of the gold he makes to his brother's family back home, who do not even so much as send letters to him. As the Hero draws near the end of their journey they offer their friend Lyndon a gift, to return with him to his home with enough gold to pay back the merchant's guild and have his brother released, which he simply refuses to believe.

Equipment

Lyndon's Armor

Lyndon's armor progression.

Lyndon fights with ranged weapons, allowing him to keep his distance from the beasts and cultists that, really, is your job to deal with anyway. In battle, he fires quick bolts and arrows at your enemies to cripple them, stun them, or do moderate single-target damage. Lyndon also carries pieces of unique equipment with him, mementos of a life guided by wit and luck, like loaded dice and hidden pouches. These souvenirs improve his ability in combat as much as, if not more than, the jewelry and other trinkets he stockpiles.

Skills

Lyndon’s skills increase your party’s damage, as well as his own ability to cripple or poison opponents and his capacity to evade attacks. He can also gain the ability to strike multiple foes at once with a salvo of arrows or a carefully placed explosive bolt.
