Kanai's Cube powers are unique powers of Legendary and Set items available to Kanai's Cube in Diablo III: Reaper of Souls. These powers can be extracted by the Cube using a recipe called the Archive of Tal Rasha, destroying the original item. Up to three of those extracted can then be used without needing to equip the original items, increasing the number of effective equipment slots and providing a significant increase to character power.

General use[]

Extracted abilities are stored within Kanai's Cube permanently. They can be selected for use by a character and deselected (replaced by a different power) without losing the extracted power. Multiple characters can use the same power at once. Once selected in the Cube, the powers last indefinitely (until replaced with a different power), even in Campaign Mode when the Cube itself is not available.

At any given time, a character may have:

Kanai4slots

  • During Season 22, Kanai's Cube received a 4th slot that could be filled with any power normally allowed in the other three.

Other notes on using Legendary powers in the Cube:

  • Legendary powers are Unique-Equipped: one cannot gain the same power both from the Cube and from an equipped item, or from the Season 22 extra slot.
  • A Legendary power cannot be selected if it is specifically designed for another class, bound to a class-specific item of another class, or bound to an item that a character cannot use for any reason. (For example, Demon Hunters cannot equip Legendary powers from two-handed melee weapons.)
    • "Cross-class" powers can be extracted by a character. Such extractions show a success message but the power will still not show in the selection menu.
  • Only extracted Legendary item powers can be chosen in Cube slots, not other abilities like passive skills.
  • Powers with variable quantities, which are "rolled" randomly on actual items, automatically gain their best possible value in the Cube.
  • The effect applies as if the item was equipped: in particular, Arcstone and Unity ring powers will function properly when applied.
  • Characters may use powers from items that their class is allowed to wield, even if they are not intended to do so. For example, Demon Hunters may (and sometimes should) take powers of Shields, which are rarely equipped due to the class's reliance on ranged weapons and quivers.
  • Only the unique legendary power of an item is gained by selecting it in the Cube, not any of its statistical bonuses.

Collecting powers[]

The collection of powers is shared among all characters of the same type (with regard to Season or Hardcore status) on an account, much like access to artisans. At the end of a Season, Seasonal characters' powers merge into the collection of the main account.

Other notes on collecting powers with the Cube:

  • There is no level requirement. Items do not need to be level 70.
  • An item whose power is modified by a patch after it was extracted will change in the Cube collection as well, regardless of whether or not the change was retroactive to previously looted items themselves.
    • However, a power completely revamped is not updated; it is removed from the collection and replaced with a new one in "uncollected" state.
  • Extracting can only be performed once per item per game mode (e.g. Seasonal), since there is no possible benefit to multiple copies of the same power.
  • The Cube interface shows grayed out entries for Legendary Powers a character is missing, but could equip once extracted. It does not show powers that cannot be equipped by the current character.
  • Some, but not all, cosmetic effects of powers that have no real gameplay use (such as Slorak's Madness) can still be extracted, stored and applied, if, for whatever reason, players want to do so. Exceptions are listed below.
  • Each Legendary power also displays an icon (see image to the right) that indicates its status:
    Legendary power "extraction diamond" icons
    • Solid diamond (top): cannot be extracted
    • Empty diamond (middle): can be extracted
    • Filled diamond (bottom): already extracted

Invalid powers[]

Set bonuses cannot be extracted. The unique Legendary powers of Krelm's Buff Belt, Krelm's Buff Bracers, Danetta's Revenge, and Danetta's Spite can be extracted, but using their power will not complete their respective sets or provide set bonuses.

The following items cannot have their powers extracted or used in the Cube:
