This is one of many changes we’re making to PvE, to make it more challenging and rewarding to players who complete these objectives as they cycle weekly."

The Helliquary

Helliquary is a gameplay system of Diablo Immortal. It is intended for endgame play.[1]

Lore[]

"You're back! And you stink of demon. I'll take that to mean you were successful. Now, take a look at the Helliquary; you'll see places to store demonic remains like the ones your Chaos Herald left behind. Once placed, they will seal, and the device will siphon the demonic energies."

The Helliquary

The Helliquary is an ornate chest fashioned from precious metals, crystal, and gems.[2] It was built to locate particularly destructive demons and trap their essence when they're slain.[3] Once the demon is defeated, the Helliquary can turn their remains into power an adventurer can take advantage of.[4] Though unstable, the Helliquary is capable of funneling the power of defeated demons to a sufficiently daring subject.[3] The remains of the demon are sealed inside the Helliquary, containing the darkness, and the energy is channeled into the subject, without any noticeable corruption.[5] However, the risks of this process remain unknown.[3]

At least in theory, the Helliquary is capable of channeling the essence of humans as well.[5]

The Helliquary was designed to be reinforced by scoria. The stronger it becomes, the stronger its user(s) become as well.[6] The device is small enough and light enough to be lifted by an ordinary human.[5]

Since it was upgraded by Rayek, multiple parts of a demon can be sealed in the Helliquary at a time.[7]

History[]

"Are you sure siphoning demonic energy is a good idea?"
"We need energy--we use demons or we use people...Personally, the former seems more ethical."

- An adventurer and Rayek(src)

The Helliquary was built by Rayek with the aid of Charsi.[5] Rayek hoped to use his creation to stop demonic incursions before they happened, and prevent the doom that came to his homeland from ruining other lands.[3] After building the device, he detected dark energy coming from the Einfrinn Tree. Studying the tree, he discovered that the Helliquary had become entangled with energy leaking from the tree, and that the tree itself was holding back a powerful demon. He suggested using the Helliquary to lend power to the tree, as it was growing weaker by the minute.

To this end, he enlisted the aid of a hero/group of heroes. After receiving a vision of the future from the tree, they retrieved the remains of Chaos Herald Pyl, which were used by the device.[5]

Two years later, Rayek was put in charge of Cain's Workshop after Cain travelled.[8] He built an alter in the backroom of the workshop that could boost the sensing range of the Helliquary. Unfortunately, an energy reading originating from Bilefen interfered with the altar. Rayek sent a letter to the Shard-seeker to help him track the source of the energy. The interference originated from a fissure venting demonic energy which corrupted the surrounding wildlife. Using the energy as a reference, Rayek located similar fissures at Ashwold Cemetery, Dark Wood, Frozen Tundra, Mount Zavain and Shassar Sea. Rayek asked the Shard-seeker to gather energy samples from the other fissures, but not before upgrading the Helliquary. By placing the improved Helliquary on the altar, and using the procured energy samples as a reference, Rayek scried a new set of demons — the third so far. He named them the "Hearthrot".[7]

Gameplay[]

Helliquary 2

A Helliquary raid is initiated

The Helliquary becomes available once the player's character reaches level 36. After this, players will reunite with Deckard Cain in his workshop. Cain introduces the player to Rayek, who's developed the Helliquary.[4] This is part of the quest "Opening the Helliquary."

Overview[]

The Helliquary is a powerful creation forged to defend against battle some of the most powerful demons from the Burning Hells.

  • As your Helliquary grows in power, so do you. Initially you gain bonuses to Combat Rating, and later gain additional benefits in Challenge Rifts.
  • To improve your Helliquary, you must find Voidblood Slag, which is awarded by defeating Helliquary demons, as well as the Empowered Battle Pass and from other special sources.
  • When the Helliquary is powerful enough, you will be directed to locate a powerful demon in battle.
  • The first 5 Demons defeated drop Demonic Remains which can then be Sealed into the Helliquary to continue increasing its power, and also award 80 Warband activity points. This cap resets every Monday and Thursday.
  • The first time a particular Demon is defeated by a warband (at least 4 members), it awards some Voidblood Slag, up to Hell VIII difficulty.

Demonic Remains[]

For a list of Demonic Remains, see Category: Demonic Remains.

Demonic Remains operate as following:

  • Demonic Remains drop after each Helliquary boss is slain. Players will only receive remains for their first five kills following each Helliquary reset on Monday and Thursday. Each Remains can only be assigned to one specific slot in the Helliquary. (Hearthrot bosses drop specific items for each slot; Wrathborne and Voidwound bosses drop the same item, regardless of the slot to which it is assigned.)
  • The Trophies tab of the Helliquary menu contains various slots for players to assign Demonic Remains to. Each Demonic Remain provides various bonuses to Challenge Rifts when placed in a slot, as well as bonuses to Combat Rating and Attributes. Players may have up to 5 sets of Demonic Remains bonuses at a time.
  • The attributes provided by each Demonic Remains scale to the Hell difficulty in which players received it from. The higher the difficulty, the greater the rewards.

Other Information[]

Players may solo the Helliquary, or do so as part of a group.[9] The Helliquary allows up to 8 players at a time[10] (this can be in a warband)[11] to locate and defeat bosses in order to not only power up their characters, but also to benchmark their power. If a player's character defeats a boss, they receive a power boost.[1] Multiple difficulty levels are available for each boss;[12] the difficulty of bosses increases with each subsequent Hell difficulty. Some Hell difficulties can only be unlocked through defeating corresponding Helliquary bosses. Within the Helliquary dungeon itself, the difficulty scales to players' respective difficulties.[9]

Each player has one revive in the Helliquary. Otherwise, they need to rely on other players to revive them.[13] When a player dies more than once during a raid, resurrecting them will incur an increasing cooldown.[14]

The Helliquary has a leaderboard system, where warbands compete for the best positions. The top leaderboard team gains extra scoria.[11] For a warband to take part in a Helliquary raid, at least four warband players must be present. The other four slots can be filled by other players. Completing the raid this way will still yield extra warband rewards for the warband members. Successfully completing a warband Helliquary raid for the first time will grant warband members an additional 400% drop rate increase for Sealed Warband Chests. This bonus resets every Monday and Thursday.[15]

Objectives are cycled weekly.[16]

History[]

The Helliquary originally unlocked between levels 41–45.[1] Originally, the Helliquary was said to have been developed by Charsi,[4] while in the final version, its creation can better be attributed to Rayek.

At some point, the Helliquary became available when the player completed the Bilefen questline.[4] In the final version, the player just needs to reach level 36.

Originally, the Helliquary could only be attemtped as part of a group. As of the Terror's Tide update, the Helliquary may be soloed.[9]

The original Helliquary dropped Scoria, which had to be taken to Charsi in Westmarch to be refined into Hellfire Scoria; this was removed when the Voidwound bosses were added.

Originally 4 members of the same Warband had to participate in a Helliquary raid to earn Warband Points. This requirement was dropped in the September 21 2023 update.[17]

In the Unending Storm update, the difficulties were reworked, and as a result the bosses available to challenge were updated as well. The bosses for each difficulty before the update were as follows:

Difficulty Boss 1 Boss 2 Boss 3 Boss 4 Boss 5 Combat Rating requirement
Normal Lassal 420
Hell I Lassal Vitaath 720 870
Hell II Lassal Vitaath Gorgothra 1250 1400 1550
Hell III Lassal Vitaath Gorgothra Twin Terrors 1820 2120 2120 2390
Hell IV Lassal Vitaath Gorgothra Twin Terrors Izilech 3040 3040 3390 3390 3705
Hell V Vitaath Gorgothra Twin Terrors Izilech Ophinneb 4825 4825 5475 5475 6175
Hell VI Izilech Ophinneb Catarag Dymdrail Apothrus 7815 7815 8403 8403 8930
Hell VII Ophinneb Catarag Dymdrail Apothrus Phangwrth 10400 10400 10750 10750 11310
Hell VIII Ophinneb Catarag Dymdrail Apothrus Phangwrth 13200 13200 14250 14250 14550
Inferno I Dymdrail Apothrus Phangwrth Vhansoon Strazos 19700 19700 20300 20300 20900
Inferno II Phangwrth Vhansoon Strazos Gebdu Khuluul 22100 22100 22700 22700 23000
Inferno III Strazos Gebdu Khuluul Yamnaal Saarodan 24200 24200 25100 25100 26020
Inferno IV Khuluul Yamnaal Saarodan Iphael Drepsaigh 29100 30000 30360 30720 31100
Inferno V Saarodan Iphael Drepsaigh Elsauli Iscea 31700 32300 32700 32900 33300
Inferno VI Iphael Drepsaigh Elsauli Iscea Peisthal 33500 34300 34500 34700 34900

Because there was no room for them in the new system, Vitaath, Gorgothra, Izilech, the Twin Terrors and Vhansoon can no longer be challenged. Their trophies were retired and moved into the Legacy category. Nevertheless, these bosses (except for the Twin Terrors, which didn't appear before) can still appear as echoes during a Helliquary Surge.

In the August 7 2024 update, Vitaath, Gorgothra, Izilech, and the Twin Terrors were added back on Normal difficulty.

This section contains facts and trivia relevant to this article.
  • The lack of prelude quests for the Soulhewn and Stormspawn implies that the groups were not scried by the Helliquary, but encountered by the Shard-seeker in their journey through the the regions the groups base in (Southern Dreadlands and Cold Isles respectively). This might be because they were already active by the time the Helliquary was made.
