A Hell Bovine

Hell Bovines are bipedal cattle with polearms.

Lore[]

Given sentience by Diablo and driven mad by the incessant prodding they suffered at the hands of the heroes that swarmed to Tristram, these hell-spawned bovines sought to destroy those who abused them when they were docile and defenseless. Armed with vicious halberds, they lay in wait just on the other side of a secret portal that was opened with the "help" of their first victim...[1]

In-game[]

Hell Bovines are only found in the Secret Cow Level in Diablo II, accessible only after finishing the game on Normal difficulty and transmuting together a Tome of Town Portal and Wirt's Leg in the Horadric Cube, inside the Rogue Encampment.

Hell Bovines are burdened with slow foot speed, but they hit quite hard, and mass in huge herds, making them potentially dangerous to melee characters or ranged attackers who are not careful to maintain their distance. When fighting these animals, do not run wildly as that will gather more groups of Hell Bovines into a huge mob.

  • The existence of Hell Bovines was first revealed a screenshot, purposefully released on April Fools' Day in order to confuse players and leave them wondering whether or not it was a joke.[2]
