Talk to Daran at the Wolf City Tavern

  • Daran: You're investigating the Ashwold disappearances? Please, you have to go right now. My sister was in that group.
  • Class: I'll find out what happened. Anything I should know?
  • Daran: We're both new... we just came in with the last assembly. She really cares, really wants to help the poor people in this city. She's just... not much of a fighter.
Start heading to Ashwold Cemetery
  • Daran: (to self) I said she could make her mark in the field. I... Please be safe, Selby.

Corpses of Immortals litter the entrance of the Hideout

  • Class: The dead all look like Immortals. And there are a lot of them.
Enter the Immortal Hideout

Immortal Hideout[]

Immortal Hideout-int

The interior of the Hideout

  • Class: The stench of these cages is awful. If this is the Immortals' doing, they're far gone.
GaFC2

At the center of the Hideout are 4 bound spirits

  • Selby: Stay away! I... can't... do anything...
Approach the Stage
Hideout Phantoms

Numerous phantoms ambush the player

After killing the Phantoms
  • Selby: I... can't do anything...
  • Shade #1: Please...
  • Shade #2: This... isn't how it was supposed to end...
  • Shade #3: I can't see... or feel... anything.

Speak with Selby

  • Selby: Please. No more. I don't know how to give you what you want.
  • Class: Selby? I'm with the Shadows. Your brother asked me to help. What happened to you?
  • Selby: We snuck in... we were going to take the Immortals' weapons. Then this... necromancer strolled in the front and killed the Immortals. She saw me hiding behind the bookshelf... and... she...
  • Class: I'll try and free you.
Attempt to free Selby
Selby Backlash

The attempt fails, and the backlash injures the player

  • Class: I don't know how this runic circle might react. Selby, I don't want to make this worse. I should find the necromancer.
  • Selby: Her name's Harvine. She said my soul... wasn't strong enough. And that she'd have to look for others. Maybe she's gone to one of the tombs?
Search the Mad King's Breach—the only tomb nearby that is known to contain a powerful soul,[1] for Harvine

Mad King's Breach[]

The Outer Hall
  • Harvine: (from a distance) You are more tempered than the motes who interrupted me before. Intriguing.

Harvine stands safely behind a barrier with her skeleton minions

  • Harvine: I see you've spoken to Selby. I'm surprised she hasn't faded yet. If you want her back, I'll accept you as a trade. Do stop by.
Harvine Exit

Harvine exits through a portal, and her minions advance

  • Class: Running back to her lair. Coward.

Read Harvine's notes

  • Harvine's Notes:
The best prison for souls twisted by their "Cycle" is magic that bends against attack. The harder they struggle, the more swiftly they'll fade—and the more readily I can consume their essence.
It is of no matter to the Balance. They live already in permanent opposition.
  • Class: Maybe they can still be freed. I have to get to the Immortals' hideout before she finishes her ritual.
Return to the Immortal Hideout

Immortal Hideout[]

  • Harvine: (from a distance) "Immortals". What a delightful name. I hope to absorb their sense of humor.
Each soul spent here is another lifetime for one who can use it wisely.

Harvine torments Selby's soul

  • Harvine: You think an order that calls you "shadow" will come to your rescue? Poor Selby. Pay attention.
  • Selby: I don't care, as long as they hunt you down!
  • Harvine: (notices the player) The rare soul at last. I don't expect that you'll just surrender.
Defeat Harvine
  • Harvine: (upon defeat) I will watch the arrogance bleed from your spirit.
Harvine Enraged

Harvine drains essence from the bound spirits to empower herself

  • Harvine: Little lords of the underground. Your strength is wasted.
A while into the battle
  • Selby: (rushes to Harvine) You want my soul? Here.
Selby possesses Harvine, but is unable to fully usurp control
  • Selby: I can hold her! Stop her, now!
Harvine is eventually killed, and Selby emerges from her corpse

Speak with Selby

  • Selby: Thank you, <name>. I felt so helpless... I... I thought I'd be her prisoner forever.
  • Class: Because of your help, everyone here is free now. Rest peacefully.
Selby's soul moves on

Meet Daran outside the Wolf City Tavern
  • Daran: (as the player approaches) Where's Selby? Oh no...
GaFC9

Speak with Daran

  • Class: I'm sorry, Daran. A necromancer took the Immortals' souls... and tried to take hers. But she fought back. Gave her life.
  • Daran: This is... everything that happened to her is because of me. Did she was she in pain?
  • Class: She's at peace now. And there's no telling how many more would have suffered if not for her. I couldn't have stopped it alone.
  • Daran: Thank you... for giving her that. Thank you for everything. (departs)
