General Torion, Sword of the Realm, was a soldier of Westmarch; commander of both its army, and its knights.[1][2]
Biography[]
Torion received his knighthood c. 1245 by the grace of King Cornelius. The two had a friendly relationship, and Cornelius insisted that Torion address him on a first-name basis.
Torion fell in love with Lady Salene Nesado and asked for her hand in marriage at least fourteen times. Every time, she refused.[1]

With the passing of King Cornelius, Justinian IV was next in line. Many regarded Justinian as a weak heir, and wondered why Torion didn't seek the throne for himself. However, Torion had no desire to become king, and was loyal to Justinian, despite his misgivings.
Torion visited Salene, requesting her political support for Justinian. The Necromancer Zayl was present, and quickly learnt two things—that Torion hated his kind (per his insults), and, not spoken out loud, that he was in love with Salene. Salene assured Torion that she would support Justinian's ascension. Torion departed, but not before threatening Zayl.
Torion was releived that Salene would vounch for Justinian, but was still concerned; it would be at least two days until Justinian could claim the throne, and the longer the issue dragged on, the harder it would be to maintain support. That, and he had little faith in Justinian himself. He headed to the palace, where Edmun Fairweather directed him to the throne room. Finding Justinian waiting for him, he was taken aback by the youth's new regality. Justinian was aware of Torion's misgivings concerning his ability to rule, but nonetheless thanked him for his support. He quickly moved onto the issue of support among the nobility, and whether Westmarch's armies could be counted on if it came to it.
Torion's confidence was shaken, however, when Justinian ordered that the City Guard be drawn back from the walls to maintain order within the city itself. He would have preferred that the walls remain manned. Nonetheless, he left the meeting with more confidence in his future king than he had previously possessed.[1]

He appears as an NPC in Act V of Diablo III. He also starts the Souls of the Dead quest.
Personality and Traits[]
A tall man, Torion possessed flowing brown hair brushed over his shoulders, trim beard with hints of gray. He had blue eyes, one of which was damaged by a scar. He had a low opinion of the Priests of Rathma. According to Sardak Nesado, he had a penchant for dramatic entrances. He considered himself to be a man of action. He was interested in military history, but not of any other kind. While a capable military commander, he had no desire for rule from the throne, considering it an "oppressive weight."[1]
