Transcript[]
Part 1[]
- Deckard Cain: Ah, welcome, friend! Welcome! Ah, I am glad to see you made it here safely. And with the shard of the Worldstone, I hope?
- Class:
- Barbarian: Of course. Can we destroy these and be done with it?
- Blood Knight: As I promised. Have you found a ritual that will destroy them?
- Crusader: Yes, I was able to secure it. If you're ready, we can see to the shard's destruction.
- Demon Hunter: Here, take it. It was weighing down my pack anyway. It's far past time we were rid of these terrible things.
- Monk: It is safely in my possession, yes. Has the time come to destroy it, then?
- Necromancer: Indeed. With every step, I felt its power tug at my soul. I am glad to be rid of it.
- Wizard: Yes! I've been storing it in a special pouch just in case. I thought perhaps the cured hides of a... actually, it's not important. Here, have the stone.
- Deckard Cain: Well done, my friend. I am certain it was no easy task to acquire this shard. Sadly, there is no simple answer on how to destroy an object this powerful. For now, it must be kept out of sight.
- Give the shard to Cain
- Deckard Cain: (inspects the shard) Now then, you may recall I spoke of a ritual that revealed the Worldstone shards in Wortham and Ashwold. Well, while you were busy, so was I! And Tal Rasha's ritual has revealed a third stone to me.
You see, the ritual simply cannot find all the shards across the world. No, it reveals those that are being used in some form. It seems the magic of the Worldstone emanates from the Dark Wood: a place of great and ancient evil. - Class: So the shard is already in someone's hands, then?
- Deckard Cain: Unfortunately, yes. You must expect that the darkness is already moving against you, but you are not alone! In fact, Charsi should be here soon! I can think of no-one better to help you find the strength you will need.
Part 2[]
- Deckard Cain: There you are! Come! Stay awhile! The two of us have much to discuss, I'm certain!
- Class: Indeed, Cain. Once again, you were right. The shard was already in the hands of evil when I arrived. Many laid down their lives to aid us in reclaiming it.
- Deckard Cain: Such sacrifice...Each shard has only fallen into worse hands. It is far past time we were rid of them. Follow me, if you would.
- Deckard Cain: Even as small as they are, the shards still radiate a corrupting power...
- Deckard Cain: There, it should be safe enough to begin the ritual.
- Deckard Cain: Strange...the spell seems to have no effect. It as if the stones are resisting!
- Deckard Cain: I should have guessed this would not be easy! Even the ancient Horadrim worked together when handling shards of the Worldstone.
- Deckard Cain: My friend, I will need you to lend me your strength if we are to attempt the ritual once again. Can I count on you?
- Class: What must I do?
- Deckard Cain: Stand there, outstretch your arms and focus your mind upon the stones. The rest will be up to me.
- Deckard Cain: No! Demons have arisen from the shards! Put an end to them before we are overwhelmed!
- Class: Cain, are you hurt?
- Deckard Cain: I'm fine! But that...that was not supposed to happen! The shards have been irrevocably corrupted by Baal's influence. I'm sorry, but...I am truly at a loss.
- Deckard Cain: No, no...despair will do us no good. There must be an answer somewhere! There always is, but I will need to consult the Horadric texts...and that will take some time.
- Deckard Cain: Why don't you go and see Charsi? I know she'll want to hear about how things went in the Dark Wood. Hopefully by the time the two of you are finished, I'll know more.
- Class: Do not lose hope, Cain. I'm sure you will find something.
Part 3[]
- Deckard Cain: Welcome back, friend! I can only assume this means you've finally found what we've been looking for!
- Class: Indeed, Cain. Behold: Yl'nira. (brings out the dagger)
- Deckard Cain: Astonishing! Only once before have I been graced with seeing the craftsmanship of the High Heavens. And it certainly wasn't from this close.
- Give Yl'nira to Cain
- Deckard Cain: (examines Yl'nira) This is indeed and object of holy power. To think an old man like me would ever hold such a thing.
(places Yl'nira over the shards on the altar) With the dagger as catalyst, the ritual should not fail. The time has come.
- Cain begins his ritual
- Deckard Cain: Now then, I believe after all this tribulation, you deserve the honor! Destroy the shards once and for all.
- Deckard Cain: Three shards expunged from the world and safe from the clutches of Hell. Heh, heh, haha! I could practically burst into song! Ha ha!
- Class: Please don't...haha. In truth, I understand the feeling, Cain. The moment has been hard won.
- Deckard Cain: Yes, but let us not forget. There are still more shards out there. While you were away, I was able to divine the location of a fourth stone to the northeast. On Mount Zavain, not far from Arreat itself.
- Class: You're right, there is no time to waste. How soon can we make the journey?
- Deckard Cain: In truth, Rehm's ship isn't ready to sail. However, this cryptic letter did arrive with your name upon it. It seems you may have an interesting diversion in your future while I secure your passage.
Part 4[]
- Deckard Cain: You're back! Did your secretive friends turn out to be helpful?
- Class: They are skilled at fighting demons. And each other. If nothing else, I have a lot to think about. Any word from the captain?
- Deckard Cain: Yes, thankfully everything has been prepared. Whenever you're ready, Rehm should be waiting for you at the docks to begin the first leg of your journey.
- Class: Thank you once again, Cain.

In the beta for Diablo Immortal, the quest occurred after the Dark Wood questline was complete, and as such, the script varied significantly. Below is the original script for this quest:
- Deckard Cain: Ah, welcome, friend! Welcome! Ah, I am glad to see you made it here safely. And with the shards of the Worldstone, I hope?
- Deckard Cain: Yes, the time has finally come. Let us get to the task at hand.
- Deckard Cain: Even as small as they are, the shards still radiate a corrupting power...
- Deckard Cain: There. It should be safe enough to complete the ritual.
- Deckard Cain: Strange...Tal Rasha's ritual seems to have no effect. It is as if the stones are resisting!
- Deckard Cain: Oh, I should have guessed this wouldn't be easy! Even the ancient Horadrim worked together when dealing with shards of the Worldstone.
- Deckard Cain: My friend, I will need to borrow your strength if we are to attempt Tal Rasha's ritual again. Can I count on you?
- Class: What must I do?
- Deckard Cain: Stand there, outstretch your arms and focus your mind upon the stones. The rest will be up to me.
- Class: Cain, are you hurt?
- Deckard Cain: I'm fine! But that...that was not supposed to happen! The shards have been irrevocably corrupted by Baal's influence. I'm sorry, but...I am truly at a loss.
- Deckard Cain: No, that's not right...There must be an answer somewhere! There always is, but I will need to consult the Horadric texts...and that will take some time.
- Deckard Cain: Perhaps now would be a good opportunity for you to see the city. I know Charsi was looking forward to showing you around. Return after a while, and hopefully I'll have more encouraging news.
- Class: Do not lose hope, Cain. I'm sure you will find something.
