This ability is a Charge-up Skill. If just one charge is released, it deals fire damage in a small radius. If two charges are released, it deals an explosion in a larger radius. Releasing three charges causes an explosion and a patch of flame, similar to Amazon's Immolation Arrow skill, except at close range.
Fists of Fire converts a portion of the user's physical damage into fire damage. The fire damage cannot exceed 100% of the physical damage. Against individual monsters with equal resistances in both types of damage, this skill is of little use. However, its area of effect potential makes it useful against groups of monsters. At level 34 or higher, this skill converts all physical damage to fire damage, which can be problematic when using it in conjunction with Cobra Strike: the latter skill only leeches life and mana based on physical damage dealt.
Fists of Fire it a valuable synergy for Phoenix Strike's first charge, and can be used in conjunction with Phoenix Strike.
The fire radius value displayed in skill infobox is invalid in D2R (at least up to v2.7) because it can be verified as being still actually 2.6(6) yards in-game (as displayed in base Diablo 2) and not 4 (as shown in D2R). The value "4" provided in par1 is given in game units (and still processed as such), which are assumed to be 2/3 yard each, but this was not rewritten in SkillDesc.txt after strings were migrated to new funcs for D2R. Surprisingly, Blades of Ice had the value recalculated properly as par1*2/3 using desc func 36 in D2R.
