It is believed that all life was forged when fire, earth, iron and flesh were combined. A Necromancer learned in this art can summon a Golem constructed entirely from living flame. The Necromancer summons the Golem through accelerating particles of the air at an ever increasing pace. These particles then ignite and the Golem crackles into existence, seemingly out of thin air.

General Information[]

Fire Golem kindles a flaming being into existence that answers the Necromancer's bidding. Like other Golems, it follows the Necromancer and assaults his enemies in hand-to-hand combat, striking them with its fiery fists. Its initially impressive fire damage rivals that of the Necromancer's Skeletons, although its killing power generally wanes at higher difficulties as monster life and fire resistances inflate. Its real talent on the battlefield lies in its Holy Fire Aura, which blasts nearby monsters with pulses of fire. Although marginal, this fire damage attracts the attention of monsters struck by it, drawing threats away from the Necromancer and his allies.

Necromancers who deploy large, mixed armies and fight in areas with few bosses may find Fire Golems appealing. They cause more damage than Clay Golems and require less micromanagement than Iron Golems. Against multiple opponents, the Clay Golem's slowing abilities affect only a few monsters at a time, making it less worthwhile. Moreover, the Blood Golem's healing may be superfluous if the Necromancer himself rarely sees harm thanks to the large army he commands. Fire Golems release a large burst of fire splash damage when summoned or destroyed, allowing cunning Necromancers to bomb large mobs of monsters with well-timed spellcasting.

Although powerful, Fire Golems have drawbacks. The mana cost to produce them is immense, costing the Necromancer a large portion of his mana orb. Fire Golems that frequently perish in combat can quickly become a cumbersome investment. They are also completely stonewalled by monsters who are Immune to Fire. The ability of Fire Golems to lure monsters to themselves can quickly turn maladaptive in some areas, like the Secret Cow Level, where its idle roving can attract large, unmanageable crowds of off-screen monsters. Finally, players have limited skill points to spend and can generally only afford to specialize in one or two Golems, making them compete with other Golems for a place in the Necromancer's outfit.

Fire Golems have a rare attribute known as Fire Absorb. Fire Absorb converts a percentage of any Fire Damage received into life gained. If maxed out, Fire Enchanted monsters might end up healing the Golem instead of harming it. This makes Fire Golems useful minions against fire-based enemies, although it may be unable to cause them any damage on its own.

Known bugs[]

Due to an error in SkillDesc.txt, which has existed since Diablo II and is still present in Diablo II: Resurrected, the value of Defense shown is based on the total Iron Golem skill level instead of the base Iron Golem skill level. However, the actual calculation uses only the base skill level, which means the actual value will be either equal to or lower than the one shown. This affects all Golems receiving the Iron Golem defense bonus.
