Passage to Corvus is a connecting dungeon found in the Paths of the Drowned in Act V of Diablo III "intended" to give access to the Ruins of Corvus. However, in addition to the true passage, three false passages spawn in every game. All are accessible from Paths of the Drowned, but only one of them will have access to Corvus. The other three are much shorter and lead to dead-ends, having obelisks to return to the entrance like other dungeons. The false passages are labeled the same as the real one in the game interface, and are initially indistinguishable. However, the false ones do have different events and unique monsters.

The four runes: Wind, Fire, Leaf, Wave

In Campaign Mode, the suggested way to find the correct passage is to determine its identifying symbol using Nephalem Guidestones. Each passage is randomly assigned a different one of four symbols: Fire, Wind, Wave and Leaf. The assigned symbol glows blue in front of each entrance, in several points in the interior, on the Paths of the Drowned map (even before being explored), and surrounding each Nephalem Guidestone. One Guidestone is obvious on the way into the Paths of the Drowned, and a number of others are scattered throughout the zone. Each Guidestone activated eliminates one passage by causing its symbol to stop glowing, as well as granting a free charge of Nephalem Glory. After three are activated, only the one true symbol will remain. This is also tracked in the Quest Journal, and the Nephalem will audibly comment on whether a passage they approach is the correct one.

The passages can be explored one by one regardless of whether the correct symbol has been determined. In Adventure Mode or when backtracking in the campaign, simply entering the Passage from the Ruins of Corvus side, or using the Passage to Corvus waypoint, naturally guarantees it is not a false passage.

Trivia[]

The false Passages are the successor to Tal Rasha's Tomb in Diablo II, which also had false instances distinguished by symbols, and could be correctly identified by exploring the previous zone. The Defiled Crypts of Diablo III also have false instances, although there is no symbol system in that case.
