"Sargoth betrayed us. For his terrible crime...he was imprisoned for eternity. Or, so we believed...When I faced him again...something had changed. His rage had grown...granting him terrifying power. I fought with all my strength. Everything I had! I failed. You, must not."

- Namari(src)

Sargoth is a nephalem who betrayed his kind, allying with Hell.

Sargoth possessed exceptionally powerful magic. Of note, he not only had the ability to summon demons to his side, but would gain their power upon their defeat. He despised humanity, seeing them as nothing more than "a pale shade" of their nephalem forebears, and as being unfit to inherit Sanctuary.[1]

Biography[]

"Sargoth, the despoiler of life, has been prisoned inside for millennia. My soul was bound to this place to ensure the dark summoner never escaped. Yet, eternity is a long time. The power of the Nephalem has waned, and Sargoth's connection to the Burning Hells has only grown stronger. He will free himself in time. And I am bound here, helpless, without the three beacons. Only with your aid can the beacons be returned. There is still a chance to eliminate Sargoth before he unleashes havoc upon this world. Do this, and I will entrust to both of you what you seek."

- Namari(src)

Sargoth's power

Ambitious, gifted, Sargoth was the sole student of a cabal pledged to instruct him in magecraft. Impatient with his progress, he murdered them in their beds and stripped away their very existence;[2] he was just fifteen. At the apex of his power, Sargoth offered an entire temple city to the Burning Hells. Only the desperate efforts of the priestess Namari sealed him in the temple's ruin.[3]

Barriers were erected inside it to help contain his power.[1] Three beacons imbued with preservation magic were installed to ensure that Sargoth remained alive.[4] However, such was Sargoth's rage that his power increased over time,[1] as did his connection with Hell.[5] At some point, Namari confronted Sargoth, and found that his rage had granted him terrifying power. The two fought, and she was defeated.[1] Her soul was bound to the site to ensure that he never escaped.[5]

Over time, the temple was plundered,[6] including the beacons.[4] In 1270, someone stole the last of the beacons from the temple, which prevented Namari from intervening as Sargoth's power continued to grow.[5] AFter the beacons were returned, Namari guided a hero/group of heroes through the temple. It turned out that Sargoth had enslaved nephalem spirits to his side, forcing the hero(es) to fight their way through them, along with his other minions. They were forced to deactivate the barriers, which allowed Sargoth's strength to continue.[1]

The hero(es) confronted Sargoth, who summoned demons to his side. The hero(es) were able to defeat them, but drawing upon the power of the slain demons, Sargoth's power increased even further. He stepped into the fray, battling the hero(es) himself. However, he was slain, and in his last moments, called out to Diablo to lend him strength. However, no help came, and Sargoth died.[1]

Sargoth in-game

Sargoth appears as the boss of the Temple of Namari dungeon in Diablo Immortal.

Sargoth summons multiple monsters to his side, but in the first three phases, does not take part in the fight himself, nor can he be harmed. Instead, he summons three Super Unique monsters in randomized order. These include Cold Snap, a Fallen War Matron, and a Siegebreaker. Only after the third monster is defeated will Sargoth enter the fray.

Upon his defeat, he drops the Betrayal Strand.
