The Fahiran Empire (a.k.a. Fahiran dynasty)[1] is a defunct geo-political entity of Sanctuary.[2]
History[]
The cruel Fahiran Empire[2] was once known as "the old kingdom" (of Kehjistan),[3] or alternatively, simply "Shassar."[4] It was ruled by King Fahir for a 1000 years, and his reign was marked by various atrocities.[5] During his reign, Shassar was far from the wasteland it would eventually become.[1]
The empire had an aristocracy which also preserved their lives, using dark magic to forge necrosis-warding threads that breathed longevity into their souls.[6] The aristocracy also oversaw brutal games in Fahira's fighting pits. However, only fair contest was allowed.[7]
After Fahir's death, the people turned on each other, trying to claim his riches.[3] His scepter, the symbol of his authority, was split into three parts, which appears to have hindered his subjects' ability to have found an heir.[4] Conflict swept across the desert sands as factions vied for power.[8]
By the 13th century, the Shassar civilization had collapsed,[9] its people scattered throughout the land,[10] and Shassar had become a wasteland.[1] Two bandit gangs, the Amber Blades and Sand Scorpions, continued to fight over the few remaining resources in the dunes. While the Scorpions hoped to continue the empire's legacy, the Blades sought to transcend it.[2] Ultimately, Tabri of the Blades retrieved the Scepter of Fahir, which (in her mind) gave her the right to rule Shassar.[10]
Trivia[]
- The description of Shassar as an "old kingdom" (of Kehjistan) may be inspired by the Old Kingdom of Egypt. Similarities can be found, such as the desert landscape, and Fahir's pharoah-esque attire, deification, and use of the term "Fahiran dynasty."
