The Einfrinn Tree is an ancient, gnarled tree located in the middle of Westmarch.[1]
Lore[]
Legends say that the Einfrinn Tree was planted by King Rakkis when Westmarch was founded. Rayek, however, suspected that the tree was was old as Sanctuary itself. Whatever the truth of its origin, Rayek discovered that the tree was holding back a powerful demon (apparently Izilech the Mishappen) but was growing weaker by the moment. Meeting with a hero/group of heroes, he suggested that they use the Helliquary on the tree. Upon doing so, the hero(es) fell unconcious, and the tree granted them with a vision.
In said vision, the Wrathborne, led by Izilech, overran Westmarch, setting it ablaze. The tree was torn open by Izilech's entrance into Sanctuary. The hero(es) woke up, and realized that they had been unconcious. Rayek explained that according to the Druids, all trees could see their deaths. Apparently, the Einfrinn Tree had given them a vision of the future, and its own death in said future (the moment of Izilech's emergence). To avoid the outcome the Tree had foresworn, Rayek suggested using the tree as a personal gateway, to fight the demons before they were ready.[1] To do this, they would have to build up the power of the Helliquary, in order to open the tree's portal.[2]
Sometime later, a red boulder crashed beyond the Wolf Gate. It was discovered that the boulder was a piece of the prison that held back another group of demons. When it was offered to the Einfrinn Tree, the tree resonated with it, causing strange flowers to bloom around it[3].
In-game[]
The Einfrinn Tree appears in Diablo Immortal in the Central Square zone. Its initial appearance (see below) changes after the player talks with Rayek, a dark portal appearing within it (see below). During the quest "Opening the Helliquary," the tree's portal shifts from black to red, displaying its vision of the future.

Trivia[]
- Justinian IV developed a fascination with the tree after becoming king of Westmarch.[4]
- The color of the portal within the Einfrinn Tree changes with each demon it is connected to for the Wrathborne. This pattern did not continue for subsequent demonic orders.
- It is not clear the general property of petrified trees that wards demons[3] (the Voidwound prison is covered with petrified wood, which is made from moonlit trees).[5]
- Though the Einfrinn Tree always has an active portal once the Helliquary system is activated, it is implied that canonically, the portal closes after each demon is killed, and only opens when the tree is used to scry the next demon.[3]
