Trivia[]
- The Diablo series primarily derives inspiration from Judeo-Christian symbols, icons and iconography. As the series has progressed however, more inspiration has been taken from other major real-world religions.[1]
- In terms of visual design, Blizzard considers Diablo to be its most realistic series, sitting on the opposite end of the spectrum from Warcraft.[2]
- Julian Love has suggested that Diablo himself should be in every main series installment, though him not being in expansions is acceptable.[3]
- According to Joe Shely, it is the evil of Diablo's soulstone that ties the franchise together.[3]
- Since The Lost Vikings, dwarfs or a dwarf reference have featured in almost every Blizzard IP.[4] Diablo is the only exception among its major IPs.
- As of December 2023, the majority of Diablo players are in their 30s or 40s.[5]
- Throughout the franchise's history, developers have evaluated the IP on a spectrum. At one end is "blood, guts, and shock value." The other sits suspense. The IP has generally leant towards the latter.[6]
