"Just make a movie! I don't care if it’s a good movie. How could it be? I just want a movie based on Diablo."

Erich Schaefer(src)

A hypothetical Diablo film has been discussed at various points in time.

Ideas of a a Diablo movie go at least as far back as 1997. Multiple movie details were in the works that never went through.[1]

In 2007, it was speculated that Legendary Pictures were producing a film titled "Diablo", based on the Diablo series. The film was listed in Legendary Picture's "In Development" list along with the (already confirmed) World of Warcraft movie. A day later, the film was taken down from the list.[2]

In 2015, Activision Blizzard Studios listed the Diablo setting as one of Blizzard Entertainment's franchises that they could develop a film for.[3]

In March 2019, Blizzard Entertainment filed for a trademark for "downloadable films and movies featuring narratives based on a video game and provided via a video-on-demand service," the video game in question being the Diablo series.[4]
