Devour Class: Necromancer (Diablo III) Skill Category: Corpses Active Generate: 10 Essence per corpse Consumes all corpses within 60 yards to restore 10 Essence per corpse. Damage Type: Physical Other Stats: Requires a corpse |
Devour is a Necromancer Corpse skill in Diablo III. It very loosely resembles the Carrion Vine and Solar Creeper.
In-game
When cast, consumes all nearby monster corpses (radius is wide enough to affect the entire screen) to replenish the Necromancer's Essence.
The skill costs no Essence to cast, and has no cooldown, so with sufficient corpses, it can be used again and again.
Runes
- Ruthless: Also consumes all of the Necromancer's minions for additional 10 Essence per minion killed.
- Voracious: Reduces all Essence costs by 2% for each corpse consumed for 5 seconds. This effect stacks.
- Devouring Aura: The skill can no longer be cast at an area, and instead, when activated, becomes a passive aura that consumes all corpses within 15 yards of the Necromancer yards, restoring 11 Essence per corpse. The range of this effect is increased by 50% of effective gold pickup radius. The skill will show a faintly pulsing aura displaying the radius.
- Satiated: Increases maximum Life by 2% for 2 seconds for each corpse devoured. Current Life increases proportionally; the absolute value of current Life does not decrease when maximum Life is returned to normal value.
- Cannibalize: Each corpse consumed also restores 3% of maximum Life.
Non-rune enhancements
- The Johnstone: each corpse consumed in Land of the Dead increases the Necromancer's damage by 10% for 8-10 seconds after it ends.
- Requiem Cereplate: when Devour restores Essence or Life above the maximum, the excess is granted over 3 seconds instead of instantly.
- Fate's Vow: after consuming 15-20 corpses, unleashes a Death Nova.
- Corpsewhisper Pauldrons: Corpse Lance damage is increased by 15-20% for 3 seconds for each cast of any skill that consumes a corpse, stacking up to 80 times.
Passives
- Fueled by Death: grants 3% increased movement speed for 5 seconds, stacking up to 10 times, for each Devoured corpse.
- Life from Death: each Devoured corpse has a 20% chance to create a Health Globe.
Development
The logic behind the Necromancer's Devour skill was that though it can feel wasteful, the decision to consume all the corpses is intentional, so Devour isn't used mindlessly.[1]
