A Death Spire
Death Spires (also called Writhing Pillars) are towers of flesh and bone[1] used to anchor effects in demonic magic. The effects cannot be dispersed unless the spires are destroyed. Of note, they have been used by Chaos Herald Pyl of the Wrathborne to anchor a barrier around himself,[2] and by the Ancient Nightmare for the Black Mists.[1]

Destroying a Writhing Pillar
Death Spires appear in the "Opening the Helliquary" quest in Diablo Immortal, as part of the boss fight with Pyl. Players have to destroy the spires before they can harm Pyl himself. They also appear in the "Seeker of Truth" quest, though they were renamed as "Writhing Pillars". Players have to destroy a pillar to disperse the Black Mists that obscure the depths of the Silent Monastery. In both cases, this is accomplished by channeling into them, rather than dealing damage.
