Dark Omens is the second campaign quest in Act II of Diablo IV. It begins immediately after An Unforeseen Visit, once the player finishes talking to Donan in Eldhaime Keep's Great Hall. It leads directly into Enroaching Shadows, Feral Nature, and The Spreading of Darkness.

Objectives[]

  1. Investigate the disturbance at Firebreak Manor (I learned that Donan, Horadrim and ally of the Cathedral of Light, had an odd incident occur at his manor located close to Eldhaime Keep. Perhaps I can find more answers there.)
  2. Talk to Steward Wilfred
  3. Enter Donan's study (After speaking to the steward of the manor it seems the incident occurred in Donan's study, but he was somewhat scant on details so I must press on and find out more for myself.
  4. Inspect blood petals
  5. Investigate the disturbance (In Donan's study I saw another vision. Lilith visited him here, wanting something. Now I'm filled with more questions than answers that, perhaps, only Donan can speak to. But that may have to wait. Something is happening at the manor.)
  6. Defeat goatmen attackers
  7. Talk to Donan (Firebreak Manor has been overrun by goatmen attracted by the lingering presence of Lilith's foul essence.)

Transcript[]

  • Steward Wilfred: Welcome to Firebreak Manor, traveler.
  • Class: I am here about an incident. Donan gave me permission to look around.
  • Steward Wilfred: Incident?
  • Class: That was all he said.
  • Steward Wilfred: He must be referring to his study. Something...unsettling transpired there.
Flashback
  • Donan (tired sigh)
  • Donan: No...this can't be...
  • Donan: I don't know who you are.
  • Lilith: And I know you. Donan.
  • Lilith: Old. Tired. Each day a struggle to live up to your own legacy.
  • Donan: What do you want with me?
  • Donan: He's dead.
  • Lilith: Astaroth cannot die. Not by your hand.
  • Lilith: What have you done with him?
  • Donan: Away, demon. I deny you.
  • Lilith: You have grown so frail...I can make you the hero you were.
  • Donan: Return to the darkness from whence you came.
  • Donan: I said away.
Flashback ends
  • Class: A signal horn.
  • Donan: Goatmen. They've never dared come so close to the estate before.
  • Class: Perhaps they were drawn by Lilith's presence. I saw a vision of her in your study.
  • Donan: What do you mean, a vision?
  • Class: I don't fully understand, but...it isn't the first time.
  • Donan: Full of surprises, aren't you? No wonder you caught Lorath's attention.
  • Donan: Well...now you understand my predicament. The Daughter of Hatred in my own home! She must be furious I cast her out.
  • Class: That painting on your wall, who are the others in it?
  • Donan: Why do you ask?
  • Class: Lilith seemed to leave after seeing them.
  • Donan: Yes, yes. I think you're on to something. I resisted her, so she might question them about the demon next.
  • Donan: There are knights stationed in villages near the druids. If Lilith passed through, they must have seen her.

Optional Dialogue[]

This dialogue with Donan is unlocked upon completion of the quest:

  • Class: What will you do now?
  • Donan: I must see to the dead here. If I'd known they were in danger, I would have closed off the estate. Damn Lilith! She brought this on them!
  • Class: Lilith doesn't seem to believe you destroyed Astaroth.
  • Donan: Of course not. Demons are arrogant creatures. She would never accept that our kind could vanquish Astaroth. What troubles me is why she is looking for him. What does she want? Astaroth was from the Realm of Hatred, the place Lilith once called home. Perhaps therein lies an answer. I'll have to ponder this more.
  • Class: Tell me about Airidah and Nafain.
  • Donan: They were like brother and sister to me once, but life has taken us on different paths. Airidah is consumed with the task of watching over the dead. I long for a time we can meet and discuss old histories, like we used to. And Nafain...well, it's a shame he's become so bitter. Lives like a recluse deep in the woods. Refuses to meet with me.
  • Donan: People either curse me or praise me for that decision. There is no middle ground. Druids like Nafain think I've given their land to the Knights Penitent. What other choice do they think I had? After the Days of Ash, we needed help to rebuild and protect Scosglen. The Cathedral was ready and willing.
